Had another idea concerning this age old quest, which was inspired by a recent thread where you would rate your self in % of your quality of post.

Well, I don't know if vB has this ability or not, but how about this:

Upon each person's post, there could be a "Rate This Post" link just like with the "Rate This Thread", where the members could then vote on each-other.

Based on a certain grading scale, certain rewards could be made available to that poster.

I know it goes against the philosophy of not running a poll in members, but this would be a grading system by your piers of the quality of your post.

Any thoughts?

Pako I think it is a great idea. It all depends on the maturity of the member who is rating another member though. some people here at GTP dont like other members or at that time may hold a grudge. They could just give that person a crap rating and screw them up. Other than that GREAT IDEA! :)

Well, I'm happy to report that there will be a "karma" system of sorts arriving soon, similar to what you've suggested, Pako. I'm also considering dropping post counts in exchange for a new system of determining member seniority...

I thought of that too..., but a lot of people would have to hold a grudge on you in order for it to affect your rating...

Think about it... It would be a different rating for each post you make.

Say you have a 1,000 post.

# of posts.........Rating
10 ..............- are rated 1
20 ..............- are rated 2
500............ - are rated 3
400 ............- are rated 4
70 ..............- are rated 5

with an average rating of ? (you would take a weighted average of the numbers)

Ooopp, Snuck in with that post there, eh Jordan...:)

Humm.., well this could be interesting. I'm curious about the details of how this system works.

Feel free to share if you want, I'm all ears. :D

Uh Pako...sorry but I did not understand one word in your last post really. Can you please explain again? I am not an idiot though. Just not thinking straight.

Jordan are you planning on having members have status "names" instead of post counts. I sorta got what you were saying. :)

Uh-oh, I've said too much... :D The new system I've referred to will still be numerical - member titles won't be affected.

Alright Jordan although I am still not totally up on this concept (<- hey thats my name :D ) I guess I will find it all out whenver you add it to the site. :)

Yes, I can assure you it will be well documented and explained once it is implemented. :)

I don't think there's anything that Jordan says that's basic. There's always a bigger "something" behind his words...

I'm pretty sure I know what Jordan is talking about... at a forum I used to go to, they used a karma system of sorts... I won't reveal how it worked though, unless I find out it's not the same as what Jordan will implement. ;)

Just hang in there, you don't have to worry about anything right now. Once things actually start happening, I'll make sure everyone knows exactly what's going on. :)

We already have a member status (a.k.a. member title), and we always will. This feature will not be leaving. :)

Jordan:

I love this post count thing and I may be compelled to leave the boards if you switch to something based purely on senority. That's actually why I left GameFAQ's and came here.

I'm not going to discuss it anymore, but you have nothing to worry about, M5Power. The new system will not be based on seniority, but on your activity and participation on a regular basis.
