As an attempt to find the elusive RUF Yellowbird, I decided to buy all cars available in GT5. I don't use, tune or race these cars; I just buy whatever is available at the used car shop and answer "No" when asked if I want to use them now (who cares about dozens of minor variations of the same second-rate Japanese car?)

This, however, has made the game unplayable. Right now I own 950 cars (still no Yellowbird) and it takes minutes to go from one screen to the next. So it seems quantity itself, even without further interaction, cripples the game. Just to make sure, I created a new user which now has 20 or so cars. The game runs flawlessly.

My questions: (a) Is there a way to make GT5 run smoother with that many cars? (Yes, I have tried to flush the cache, to no avail.) (b) Failing that, is there a way to get rid of most of these cars wholesale? You can multi-select them, which, given the slowness, is a pain in itself, but then you can't sell or give them away. (c) Where oh where is the Yellowbird?

A - No answer - sorry
B - I'd say no, best is to choose the car and sell it in the garage screen. pick up tha cash and then pick another car and sell that... But I'd refrain from that as someone may have a solution for you.
C - I have a Used Yellow bird - Bought from the Used lot, but not used myself. I could gift it to you if you can wait a day or to.

You can find a list of cars in the sued car area, work out your game day and you can discover when the Yellowbird will turn up. Or any other car too.

Good fortune and smooth running

That's odd, because I own 1 of every car (save 1 cuz I can't gold the Vettel challenge and 4 that are region blocked), and a few extras, and I haven't had problems loading from screen to screen. It does take a few seconds, but not minutes or anything untolerable.

Do you frequently clear your system cache?

A) Delete everything!
B) Remove the GT5 disc.
C) Play something else. GT5 is frustrating for loading screens. It always was and will always be.

You could try deleting all your photos, videos, suits, helmets, paints and parts. This might help reduce your game size, but might not help your load times.

The Yellow Bird is available in 0/0/0 through myself or other traders. I'm booked for a week but if you keep an eye on 'The Giveaway Thread' then you might get a free one.

Do you have a '64 or '65 ticket? If you can cover my trade then I can help you sooner.

Regarding your Yellowbird hunt, just use that ^. Follow the instructions, and use the licence trick to cycle through the Used car dealership. IIRC and if it hasn't been patched you simply go onto a licence test and click the 'Next' arrow -when the next track loads the UCD has cycled forwards. (I haven't done this in a while, but after fruitlessly searching for a 120d I found it within 4 cycles on the calendar).

A) No, just be patient. Mine runs fairly well with an old 80GB fatty. If the 4-8 seconds of typical load time is too much, then delete your older game save or don't use it. I have a 1100 car, thousands of paints, gear, etc. on my primary save, and not much on my new one (like you have it) and I see no difference, sorry.

If patience is not your virtue, which I understand it's not for everyone:), then video games aren't probably for you if you need millisecond gratification. Sorry.

I recognize that part of the problem is that when the game loads a race, it looks like you can click the green flag and go, but you can't. I prefer the black screen.

B) No.
C) UCD, Marketplace(someone offered a trade), or keep an eye on my Giveaway thread(in my signature). I can see what I have coming if you PM me- I might just give you the one I have and wait for the newer one.

I am having a problem understanding why you think you had to buy all those cars if you were only looking for the Yellowbird. All you had to do was keep flipping the UCD until one came up. You did not need to buy all those cars just to get the Yellowbird.

This is a very helpful group. Thanks, guys! I also thank you for your patience with my possibly dumb questions; I have only had this game for three months or so.

About the Yellowbird, the used car search page is very useful and the Licenses trick is neat. This also led me to realize something I hadn't noticed before: the used car list is sequential and changes by a given number of cars after each event! I thought it was random, which is why I was buying everything (in an attempt to force the program to come up with new models). Incidentally, does anyone know how often the Online Dealer list changes?

I am not impatient and I do realize that some delay is required, given the complexity of what the software attempts to do. What is annoying me is that suddenly it got much worse. I did exaggerate a bit: it's not minutes, although it adds up to minutes to go from A to B. For instance, I can no longer scroll through the car list; I have to scroll about five cars, wait a bit, scroll through another five, etc. It takes about 30 seconds to get into the car parts section, plus a few seconds for each section, plus a few seconds between each click (I can no longer click twice in sucession anywhere). And so it goes. On top of that, the game has begun to freeze (forcing me to reboot) during longer races, something that never happened before.

I agree that it doesn't make much sense to blame the number of cars for the slowness; if I am not using them, the software shouldn't be accessing them. However, that's what changed since the problem began. Perhaps it's something else, though. During the whole time there's a lot of HD activity going on. Could the disk have become fragmented? Is there a way to defragment it?

Yeah. Dumb, isn't it? I hadn't made the connection between events & changes in car stock. It seemed I had to buy a car in order to have it replaced. So, in an attempt to speed up the renewal process, I started buying everything available. After a while, it became a fun pursuit in itself. But then the game became slow and here I am...

No, not dumb if you didn't know any different. Its just that its the first time I heard of that type of behavior, lol. Its all good tho.

You obviously have a problem with your game install, Try this. Do a game save to a usb so you wont lose anything then delete you game data ( not game save ) then re-install all the updates and when finished restore your your game save and all shouls be fine fine and running smoothly.

Got to agree with just about everybody above me, it's your machine. I have over 1500 cars and 2000 paints on my save, and it runs no differently than my stock-car-only save with less than 20 cars total in both garages.

and btw, I buy cars like you do but for trade fodder. If you still need a yellowbird, send me a friend request on psn, i've got 11 or 12 in various mileages. No 0/0/0 though.

I agree with all above, but "collecting" cars has been a great part of the fun in the game. It does make it quite sluggish in some, but never the less it's still fun!
