Currently I have always played GT5 with the original sixaxis controller that came with my ps3 a few years ago. It's days a looking numbered however as the analogue sticks refuse to centre themselves and just flop over to one side if you don't hold them still.

My question is, what is the vibration feature of the DS3 like on GT5? Does it vibrate when your tyres are beginning to slip? Or does it just vibrate if you crash into a wall very hard?

Thanks in advance!

It vibrates when you hit curbs/ripple strips, walls and maybe a bit when in the grass and heavy wheelspin. I can't remember really well as I use a wheel 99% of the time. However it isn't annoying (IMO), is variable, most the time is subtle and if you don't like it you can turn it off in the option menu.

I think the vibration is too limited. I would like more feedback when tyres lock or spin as I can hardly feel that.

I'm not worried about the vibrations annoying me, I just wanted to know if it gives tyre feedback. I wish it did, for example when you push the tyres to the limit it would be useful if it started to vibrate a little bit, and the further you push them the more it vibrates to warn you they are about to lose grip.

The only thing we have in GT5 for feedback is the sound of tyres squealing, and I like racing with loud music on so that isn't really all that useful...Perhaps I will just have to turn off the Music to improve my racing.

You really don't need to turn off the music. The vibrations setting does exactly what you wrote, when the tyres start to lose grip, the controller vibrates. And intensifies the more you slide. I believe it's nicely done, very informative. But you need to concentrate a bit, because at some point you just forget about it.

Oh it does do it when tyres lose grip? That's excellent, I will make sure I pick up a new DS3 controller soon then :)

Is it more much more responsive than the old PS2 vibration? For example the old play station vibration feature was only on and off really, the only way games made it seem more "intense" was to increase the time of Vibration.

Does the DS3 begin to vibrate more and more violently depending on how much grip is lost then? If so that is an excellent feature and I'm excited to try and race with it, it is always so hard using a sixaxis in bumper cam view because you can't see what the rear tyres are doing until they have completely lost it.

Do not waste your money in a dualshock 3, it does not make a significant difference at all. My advice; save for a wheel, there is no comparison (or stay with the sixaxis...).

Ok guys, I have just tried both:

@ Ferrari: yes, it does. Vibrates harder the harder you hit.

@georgie: just as you said. The difference betwen the old DS2 and the DS3 is amazing. If you just slightly lose grip braking late into a corner, it just tingles a little. If you start drifting really bad, the thing rumbles more and more. All progressively of course.

@ Jose': I don't own a wheel. Sure it would be nice and all, but it's just not worth it to me. Biggest problem is, I don't have anything stable to attach it to when i'm playing (everything is too low). And what use is a wheel if I play (for example) Assassins' Creed? I personnally don't like clogging up my appartment with stuff I barely use. But I'll agree that the sensation is awsome.

And from what I understand from the OP, georgiebest does not have a DS3 at all. So investing in that first would be good if he likes to play other games as well, whatever they might be.

I have a DS3 but I wasn't sure the controller vibrates when you hit a car. Did you think I didn't have a DS3? I bet that's what you thought.

Nope :) I meant georgiebest and his first post, at the beginning of this thread. If I understand him right, he uses the sixaxis that was included with the PS3, and that thing is broken/will be broken soon. So my advice would be to get a DS3 if he needs a new controller, as he can use that for more than just racing games (replying to Jose's advice of saving up for a wheel).

Why did you think I had a DS3 when I asked a question about it? I, as a DS3 user should've known the answer to that question.

No problem there, not remembering stuff happens, as you said. Once you asked if the controller vibrates if you hit another car, I wondered and tried it right away, as GT5 is running anyway. I've never really payed attention to that, so I was curious.

The rest of the post was actually in response to the question georgiebest asked if the vibration function is more responsive on the DS3 than on the PlayStation 2 controller, and to Jose' who advised georgiebest to save up for a wheel.

Don't take this the wrong way man, but I neither know, nor do I really care what you use, just saw a question and answered it :)

Ferrari no need to be rude to him, he is helping me out.

Thanks exiled, that's exactly what I was trying to find out.
You're quite right, I like playing other games, namely Metal Gear Solid series, so buying a DS3 would not be a bad thing at all. I'll pick one up next time I'm in town.

Thanks for the advice/answers guys :)

I wasn't being rude to him. What makes you think that? Even if you think I was rude to him, I wasn't trying to be rude so I apologise.

They should allow an option to use ds3 as a.steering wheel

I foresee many controllers flying out of windows or hitting family members as a result. Back to the OP the upgrade from a Sixaxis to a DS3 makes a huge difference in almost anything you play.

I've never found the sixaxis motion sensor that great. Maybe it's just the games I played with it, but it either wasn't very well implemented or not great to program for.
I can imagine if GT5 had motion sensing tech, I'd rather use it to look around the cockpit view. would be handy when drifting. For steering the car I cant imagine it would work well enough

You're welcome man!

No worries, didn't see anything rude.

OT: Using the motion sensor to look around would be nice, especially when racing online. No idea on what button I should put it except for the horn, but even that would only gives me one direction to look.
