Question About "Hard" Arcade Mode.

I was racing Tokyo Route 246 on the "Hard" difficulty, and there were 3 cars that particularly worried me. The GT-ONE Race Car, the 787B, and the R390 GT-1 Race Car. I was in a fully-modded ZZII. (ZZII's are AWESOME!!! :D !) Anyways, I skipped qualifying because I thought this would be a walk in the park. For me, it was not. I was in 3rd position until the 3rd lap, where I took 1st on the last hairpin turn using the outside-inside pass. I beat them on the straightaway (I hope this doesn't sound like a write-up, because it is not supposed to be) and they were keeping up with me. The next lap was not eventful. I held 1st position. However, the last lap I brushed the wall on T1, and I was shunned into 3rd. I caught up again on the hairpin with only the GT-ONE in front of me by a few tenths (I'm guessing) and I won by about .872 seconds. My total race time (5 laps) was 7.33.100.

Now for my question: I was just wondering whether some of you all had done this before (or wish to do it now :D ) and had thought that it was relatively challenging. I'm not a good racer, particularly with the ZZII because I prefer non-4WD cars, but I wanted to see what you all's times were to compare to mine. If there was a forum for this, forgive me, because I just thought of that now... (My bad neon_duke and boombexus! Sorry!) Thanks guys, and remember that I was using a fully-modded ZZII with 9xx horsepower. Thanks!

when i read this i though it was a good idea so i ran it. my main opponent was the R390 GT1 Race Car. He was on my a$$ the whole time. i won by 0.033 seconds! Very exciting. (note that ive only had this game for 2 1/2 months so it might not be as challenging for vets. My time was 7.31.227:)

Yes - there's an Online Racing forum. But personally I quite like seeing these occasional time comparisons popping up in the GT3 forum, to encourage people who wouldn't normally visit the Online Racing forum to start up.

Oh, and it's of course not possible to qualify in Arcade mode.

Leaderboard:
1st: Famine - 6'53.051 (average 1'22.610; Best 1'20.447)
2nd: live4speed - 6'58.629 (average 1'23.726)
3rd: ceiling_fan - 7'31.227 (average 1'30.245)
4th: jamxx - 7'33.100 (average 1'30.800)

After just doing lap 1, I HAVE to ask - did you forget to change the tyres from T5 to T8?

Edit: Yes - there's something amiss here. My fastest lap would only barely register in the top 20 at Racing-Line - some 4 seconds slower than the best in the same car...

Other than there being no qualifying in arcade mode are you sure you were in a fully modded ZZII? I just did it in 6'58.629 and I'm no pro at this.

I just bought and moded a ZZ-II to try this. I did 7'33 on my first attempt, then after having changed some settings I did a 7'15.099 (best lap in 1:23.617).
It seems to need some more sharp tuning : I'm slower in the turn with this ZZ-II than with the Lancer Evo in license IA1. :odd:
Any clue (other than turning off ASM and TCS, or having T8 tires) ???

Yep. Underneath the ASM and TCS bars there is another. I forgot what it's called, but I do know what it does. The further left you put this bar the better the steering of the car. It makes the car seem like a FR. yet it's still a 4wd. I did this to my ZZII and it worked wonders. I whoop the AI's a*ses. :D

This option adjusts the power repartition between front and rear wheels on a 4WD. It ranges from 15% front - 85% rear (when set on the left) to 50/50 when set on the right.
Actually when I put it left I had the feeling I was losing much turning ability when braking. (And I was born with braking problems, see my nickname.) I have to find better landmarks to start those braking. 956 hp is definitely too much for me.

Yep. Your user name says it all.

I sense a bit of confusion on the tires here, and it was my fault that I didn't mention them. I was using the Medium tires. (I think that they are T5's). And I must add, some of you guys sure are good! :D

I accidentally did a double-post, and I don't know how to delete this one, so I'll leave it here. Whopps.

I don't think tyres affect the car in Arcade mode. Do they?

Famine, if you want to add a fifth time in your (short) list, I did a 7'10.159. But this was not 100% clean and I'm still slower than with a Lancer Evo in most of the turns.:odd:

Tires do affect the car in Arcade mode. I'll have to give this a shot and see what kinds of times I get! I just realized why i prefer a thread like this. It's because we share info to make a car work better in lieu of every man for himself secret tuning type discussions.

There's just no tire wear in arcade mode. The grip differences still apply though. Also, the option of putting more power to the rear is the VCD (Variable Center Differential) which is much like the DCCD (Driver-Controlled Center Differential) on the '04 USDM Subaru STi. It affects the torque distribution, more torque to the rear will help get rid of understeer that is common in 4WD vehicles. I'd imagine you also need to adjust the brake balance too, and you probably want to avoid braking while turning, too.

In arcade I think everything 'but' HP changes are in effect.

if you are using a sim car in the arcade races it keeps the performance upgrades dished out on GT mode including HP. The meter on the screen may show a stock value but if you added turbos and the like in GT mode the the car will still have that extra power despite what it says on screen...(fact)

Yep, the HP is the sam in Arcade as in Sim mode the additional HP isn't shown thats all, use a fully tune car without a Turbo or NA tune and the give it the top turbo or NA tune to confirm this for yourself if you want.

Well, actually I don't know if it can be bought. I'm using the X-port, so I just right-click, choose 'Change car' and select the ZZ-II. Then I'm selecting the 'Change part' function to modify it. I haven't bought a car from the car dealer since the day I got my X-port.
I had one ZZ-II in my original garage though, so there is a way to buy or win it somewhere, but it's simply one of the many cars I had never driven.
