Question about installing and running GT5.

I have now jumped on the bandwagon for one last time.
I do not have PS3 online functionality, so my question is,
If i install GT5 on my PS3 and can not get this patch/update, will it crash/freeze/permantly screw up my PS3?

If so this game isn't worth it as i don't have the means to replace said system.
If this is in the wrong place etc, a personal message and lock of the thread will be fine.

P.S. I just remembered another question.
If i don't install the game will i be able to play as usual without a problem?

P.S.S. I just said screw it and stuck it in, now i have an even more important question.
Game requires a firmware update to play, 3.50, i have 3.21.
As previously stated as i do not have online functionality with my PS3, does that mean i just bought a $60+ coaster?
Any way around this? If not then that would be just "awesome".

I can confirm for those that do not know, that the 3.50 update is on the game disc. When prompted, just click "yes" and it takes you through everything you need to do.
I also can comfirm it hasn't messed my PS3 up as the other games work and load fine.

I'm still wanting some help with the install the 10meg update for faster load times, as of right now i'm just letting it play "normally".
