Question about JGR

Why did Joe Gibbs drop Pontiac for Chevy in 2003? I understand that 2003 was the last year for Pontiac in Nascar, but was it because Chevy teams were getting better support from GM? Gibbs seemed to be pretty dominate with Pontiac in the late 90's to early 2000's with Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart.

It was GM's decision to pull Pontiac from NASCAR and focus solely on it's Chevy program. Those teams that were racing Pontiac were left with the choice of changing brands or if wanting to stay with GM to switch to Chevy.
