Question about paints.

I have a '66 Shelby Cobra, and it has 2 racing stripes, but the closest other color to black was "Charcoal" so if I paint it black will it keep the stripe? I even bought a Ford GT with the black and white stripes to get the paint color but I didn't get it. So will the stripes stay?
 
No, the Cobra loses it's stripes when painted..

A good way to test is by doing a save back up on your cpu or usb stick, then load it back after you've done the testting. You could always quit the game before getting away from the paint room (The paint spraying pillars room)
