I'm the first to admit I'm not very good with the rally cars yet, but it seems to me that a 4WD car has definate advantages over FF or FR cars. As far as I know, the WRC Champs over the past 15yrs. have been 4WD (Lancia, Mitsubishi,Subaru) Why would a manufacturer run anything but 4WD?

Most don't. The only reason the Citroen is FWD is due to the fact that it marked the return of Citroen to WRC competition after long absence, and they wanted to test the waters first before making the expense of developing an AWD setup.

Other car classes are limited to 2WD, be it front or rear. The high-hp, AWD monsters you see on TV aren't the only class of cars that rally; just the most exciting.

Welcome to GTP.

warning..I may be wrong about this but...

isnt rally divided into different categories where you have to have certain specifications to race....we all see the WRC on tv but thats the highest category but there is also a bunch of super 1600 rally cars all with 1600cc engines and Front wheel drive racing in the super1600 races

WRC are 2000cc with 4wd except for maunfacturers who dont make a 2000cc 4wd such as Citroen...it would mean that they would have to produce a 4 wheel drive Xsara for the domestic market...

i think that may be the reason...feel free to correct me if i am wrong..
