When your driving rally in the game, and your side man tells what up ahead, what does it all mean? I heard like "4 left", what would that mean for me? I understand that there is a left turn coming up, but what does the 4 mean?

Irl it's the 4th gear, guess that's what it means in gt5 too

No, that does not mean gear. It refer to next turns angle, "6" being the highest and usually means it will only turns slighlty and that you don't need to brake at all (i played some games that use reverse order).

The guy in GT5 seems to go up to 7, but yeah it's talking about the tightness of the turn.

In GT5 1 is tightest and 7 (so far) is least tight. The big numbers he gives are the distance of whatever feature he is talking about (So 1000 means a 1000 meter (I assume it's using metric) straight.)

The number system generally refers to which gear you should be in when approaching the corner but gear ratios vary so I don't always use the same gear that is called out. I find it alot easier just concerntrating on the mini map because me being a rally sim veteran I think the notes are absolute rubbish and misleading in some cases

i thought it meant yards when he says over 1000 so turn a bit and the road span is 1000 yards before next turn it makes sense to me ...:P

In real rallying, the system of numbering is generally down to personal preference - it's either the suggested gear, or the severity of the corner. Which one you use depends on what you prefer.
