Hey was just having a look at the rankings and replays in drift trial and
i thought it was strange that basically every record set for drifting
is using N1 tyres ,even when driving the high end cars.
To me this doesnt make sense why would you put N1 on a cappacino and also
on the Blitz skyline , to match the power level corectly it should have at least S1 tyres.
I drift it like that on DFP and dont see why people would want
tyres that just sit there and smoke up instead of going faster , more grip means more speed no?
it is judged on all three SPEED angle and line.

In the manual on the game in the driving options menu is a list of what tyre should be on which car ,
Mazda rx7 should have N3 to simulate normal tyres and S1 to simulate brand new tyres.
so if you were to tune the power then doesnt it make sense to upgrade the tires?

Also correct gear choice would be nice to see aswell eg the esses on suzuka should be taken in 3rd not 5th gear. not to say that everyone here does this ,it seems like alot of the leaders online do this.
but to me thats not drifting its doing a burnout
anyway i guess it is just personal prefferance.

I've noticed that the more wheel spin you have, the higher score per section you're going to get. So based on that assumption, having N1's on a 60000000bhp blitz skyline is going to get you the most points per section. Also, when you have lower quality tires like that, it means that you need to have a higher angle of attack to maintain the speed and not fly off the track (where the wheel spin actually acts as breaks instead of acceleration). In some cases, this means even a 90 degree drift just to stay on the track.

yeah i see your point but there is a reason D1 drivers use 10 inch wide rims.
The more grip you have the faster you can slow down using big angle so S2 will always outbreak N1 when entering a corner ,which means faster entrys and more angle to slow you down more grip to push you harder through the corner ,it just easier to control N1 ,but i dont see how they can be quicker.

Driftbox eh?
Anyways, they(N1) aren't quicker. More grip more control. Period.

haha yeh , my car is a corolla AE71.
you will see my point if you know the car.

lol if a drifter has a 10" rim chances are he is running like 225 stretched on there. I forget what Z it was but it was one of the widebody ones it had like 10.5" rims but 225 tires lol. Stretch is sexy though, and makes the tire solid. They use street tires, you can make just about anything work but everyone likes their own brands. And the stickier the tire the faster/less angle the drift has in most cases.

and it takes more skill to get the rear to lose traction :sly: ... somewhat

S TIRES FTW!

like in D1: Speed, Angle, and Smoke (SAS!)

Yes, I do see what your getting at ;)

225 on a 10 is a big stretch. But no, the stickier the tire does not equal less angle of the drift. Usually if a drifter puts stickier tires on, it is because he is making more power, with a stiffer chassis NEEDING stickier tires to have more control of... well everything. Yes, if you use sticky tires on a low powered car, then of course it will have less angle. That is because there is not enough power to spin the tires. So the angle is indeed less. But who in their right mind would put sticky tires on a 90-100hp car?

Thanks for confirmation guys.
lol at Deadlyz33 "Stretch is sexy" ,so true
nice fitment on your 350z

So does this means that S2 have potential to score higher than N2?
or is it just harder to control?

practice practice practice lol

True, If you are adding too much grip for really exaggerated drifts then you will drift faster and less angle. The tires they are putting on in the first place are regular street tires, combined with the fact they have small widths stretched onto bigger rims means they have some pretty low levels of grip for the amount of power they have. The Z I was reffering to that had 225s (in the rear) probably had 400-500hp, That means almost 0 grip (just like with N1s)

I have 275's on my 10.5" rears and it is a little stretched, even before my turbo, NA I could break the rears loose and drift no problem. I have much less traction now with around 400whp. What im trying to get at is that pro drifters usually have some pretty stretched and undersized tires, especially with the HP some of them run. Might not be dead on to N1 (I imagine 225 OEM style crappy tires would be N1's) but is relatively close.

Also the fact that tirespin is factored in makes sense, since in real life the more tirespin the more smoke. Wish the game could represent that better and provide more/better smoke. All that said there are many factors which go into tire sizing in real life and it would be very hard for PD to replicate it completely. I wish PD would focus heavily on tire physics and allow you to buy different size tires for different rims.

Oh and thanks for the complement, the Z is getting lowered another 1.5" or so soon. Undrivable drop FTW

I second that. tyre pressure aswell

we can only hope they get it right for gt5

Time to flare some guards then lol

Meh I don't really like S TIRES for drifting but it depends on wich car,
i love drifting my tuned cappo but with s1 tires its a pain in the ass
DAMN PD let me use n1 tires!

Same here! =) Was drifting with Pat earlier.

Yeah, tire streching is good for the response you get since it stiffens the sidewall up. And most of you know, the stiffer your rear suspension is, the easier it is to kick the back out.
Whats the total drop on your 350 and what it is dropped on? My frame rails(S13) are 2.5inches from the ground and my stance coils still have some adjustment left on them.

I was trying out tires in some drift trials & happenend to rank 18 & Suzy 2/Sections on N2/N1. Tires like R3's & down give you more points because of side angle but u have to maintain so that it's balanced. Also, the tires I used gave me more duration sliding with the drift.
