I am looking into buying a wheel to have a lot more fun while playing GT5, but I don't know which wheel to buy. I've heard that if I want to get a wheel I need to get a g25 or g27 because they offer the best experience, but after looking around I found the driving force GT which is significantly cheaper yet still has great ratings from all the online reviews.

So I was hoping I could get some help or advice when it comes to any of the three wheels: g25, g27, or Driving Force GT.

Thanks,

-Tyler

They're all good wheels but the G25 isn't made any more having been replaced by the G27 (which I have and think's blumming ace).

Honestly, unless you have money to burn, go for the DFGT. Compared to using a pad you'll be in heaven.

DFGT = best bang for the buck.

I have the T500 RS and it's awesome! I know it is expensive but I am much faster with that than any other wheel!
The majority of people have DFGT or G27. They are both good wheels so its up to you.
Sorry to have OCD but this should be in the racing sim category!

I have the driving force wheel an for the money it's hard to beat really . It really changes the experience completely . It takes some getting used to but well worth it . It depends on how much money you want to spend for me the driving force wheel is fantastic for the money .

If you have never had a wheel & $$$ is an issue go with a DFGT & build your own rig.
It's a perfect starter wheel. Search the forums for homemade rigs.

If you have had wheel before and $$$ isn't an issue G27 or T500 and a playseat are friggin incredible.

I've never had a wheel before, but money isn't really an issue. Haha. I know I will have fun with a wheel, but I don't want to blow $300 and be the new fag who still can't drive with a great wheel, but if it is that much better than the DFGT then I might still want it, but like I've heard elsewhere the DFGT is really really good for its price.

What kind of things make the g27 that much better?
I've heard the wheel turning is really really smooth, but I don't know how that goes for the DFGT.

I think the pedals are quite a bit nicer too on the g27.

The DFGT is a great wheel, for its price it is incredible.
It is a little noisy but not bad.

Keep in mind for the 1st few days to weeks (depending on your skillset)
You will be MUCH worse with any wheel when you switch over.

DFGT drives smooth, however the shifter and pedals are not nearly as good. The thing was the official wheel for GT5 so it's fine. Besides if you want to, you can purchase after market paddle shifters to DFGT is you feel the need.

Make sure you include the cost of a rig either to buy or make, otherwise it's
useless to have a wheel.

They all get the job done so it comes down to how much do you want to spend. Most people can't justify the T500RS wheel so the most popular choices are between the DFGT and G27.

If shifting with a clutch means nothing to you then go for the DFGT.

The G27 seems to be on sale quite often online, keep your eyes open for Logitech coupons. Some people have purchased this wheel for as little as $150 with 50% off coupons at Logitech.com.

DFGT - $100 to $149 (no clutch)
G27 - $200 to $299 (clutch and separate 6 speed shifter included)
T500RS - $500 to $600 (shifter extra $150)

If money isn't an object then do what I did with some of my most generous redundancy payment:

G27
Playseat
Big telly

=win and much fun!

Sorry...edit: The pedals on the G27 are 500% superior to DFGT's. (My mate has a DFGT, I don't like the pedals at all: flimsy and light) whereas the G27's are nicely & powerfully sprung and metal.

Plus there is no sound turning the wheel. DFGT is loud.

I have the G27 and I love it. I used the DFGT too at a buddy's house and its a good wheel too. Especially, when you can find a decent used one for under $100. To me its what you prefer. Me, its the G27 but its up to you.

Edit: avloc, I agree with the pedals with the DFGT. They are crap.

This, however.

i started with the DFGT and its awesome for the price! a great wheel.

i got the G27 about 4 months ago and its quality too, the extra things you pay for are the..

  • Quality (Metal and Leather)
  • Far Superior Pedals
  • Clutch
  • Shifter (6 Speed H)
  • Quietness, (much quieter than DFGT)
  • The Fact that you have a great sim wheel all along, with DFGT you will probably want to upgrade in a few years or so! 👍

But the DFGT is more GT5 Friendly.
