I've been kicking around an idea the last couple of days about creating a database for spec cars regarding their lap times around a standard track or two, with all the cars untuned except for Brake Balance, ABS 1, but detuned to the nearest "standard" PP level.
Just spitballing here, but say you take all cars 400-433pp off the showroom or UCD floor, with oil change and engine refresh as needed and detune them with the engine limiter to 400PP. Then test drive them on an appropriate tire, CS in this case, for 6-8 laps and record for example, the best lap time, the average of the best 2, or something along those lines. If I develop a base standard car in each category, then anyone can test and submit lap times to go into the database because their absolute lap times wouldn't matter, only their lap times in relation to a specific car, chosen for its neutrality of handling and higher than average grip, allowing easily repeatable laps. For example if the standard car is a BMW 135i and I run a 1:35.0 in it and someone else a 1:34.0, they can then test any other car, and it's performance will be evaluated in relation to the the 1:35.0 or 1:34.0 whatever the case may be.
The purpose would be to build a database for GT5er's to reference when trying to determine what cars to buy or drive. Detuning provides a basis for equalizing the cars in some way as does fixing the tire grade, regardless of what tires come with the car.
If I launch this project, would it go into the Tuning Forum? Where would it go if not?
