10 is an exageration, but it’s a nice even number. About 6 or 7. Whatever, it’s irrelevant. The fact is, doing it such few times will not take years off the life of my transmission.

Like I keep saying if done correctly it does very little if any damage/wear on the gearbox and syncro's (Don't ever force, that causes the damage), remember Syncro's are always wearing even in normal operation. Ever put effort into getting it into gear even with the clutch down (especially changing down to first)? If so you were putting some extra pressure on the synchromesh increasing wear.

My concern is all the potential damage from practicing and getting it wrong, there is very little use for the technique as others have said except like in my case where my clutch cable snapped. Best to not bother trying it.

I practiced it a lot in my young driving days (in my first cheap car) because I wanted to learn something my friends couldn't do and I liked trying different things.

I wont do it for shock and awe, to show off, or whatever, but sometimes i am really tired from work (I stand all day and work in the sun) and i REALLy dont feel like using my left foot, it happens. So, i think ill use it when im realy tired.

I do it once in a while, just for fun. Just have to know what revs to be at, and you have to be sensitive enough that you can put a tiny amount of pressure on the stick, not enough that it grinds, but enough that you can feel the point where it'll slot into gear. I can do it for up and downshifts.

Only done it a few times, though. I do pop the car into neutral without the clutch, sometimes, but again feeling for the right point to slide it out. I'll mostly only do that if I'm coasting up to a light and don't feel like using the clutch.

That's the worse excuse for not properly changing gear ever!

There is absolutely no reason for not using the clutch in a road car at all - the only thing it offers you is a shorter life for your transmission.

I know, I'm lazy :sly:

DSG, perhaps? There’s some real clutchless shifting for ya!

tried it twice today, and my car won't even do it - at all. and yes, I've been driving it long enough to know what rpm's it'll drop to, it just won't do it.
I couldnt help but feel sad though, as I've known kids like this, that thought they were awesome drivers, because they could race without using the clutch, and now, I know that this is what they were talking about, as I feared... and they wondered how I always shifted faster than them, I mean, after all, they werent even using the clutch!
