I just bought a DFGT after using a DFP for years. I never had an issue with the DFP. The FFB was always extremely smooth. With the DFGT, if I launch a race in GT5 and pause it, then slowly start to move the wheel either direction, once I get to about 45 degrees I start to feel the wheel clicking through the gear. It's the same feeling as if you were to hold a card against a bike spoke and spin the wheel. Is this normal or do I have a faulty wheel? Thanks!

Good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. It's definately faulty.

My DFGT makes no clicking noises at all.

Thanks for the quick reply. So when you turn the wheel until you start getting more and more resistance from the FFB it always feels smooth? The clicking is more of a feeling than a noise. I thought of another analogy. It feels like spinning the Wheel of Fortune wheel. :)

I've had my DFGT for a couple weeks. I currently have it set to FF 10. I do notice tactile "notches" as I turn against the FF. It's kind of like the feeling of some stereo receiver volume nobs where you are feeling a "click" for each notch upward or downward. Sorry, hard to describe.

I don't find it causes me problems; and figured it was normal. Are some DFGT wheels totally smooth?

My wheel did exactly the same as yours, I think that's normal.

I had mine open today and was looking at how it all works . I would think if the motor moved any the gear mesh would be off and start to eat gears. It happens to me sometimes with my rc cars(monster trucks alot) 550 size motor is the same size thats in a traxxas e-maxx monster truck and thing has power!!!! I would think the 550 had a gear for lunch

That's a very good description of what I'm feeling. There are very noticable tactile notches when I turn the wheel. I went back to the DFP and it has the same thing but it is extremely subtle compared to the DFGT. I'm thinking this is just how the DFGT was designed. Thanks again for the quick replies!

Let me clarify from my post.

You mentioned that it's like a playing card in the spokes of a wheel. A rather rapid clipping noise is what I imagine from that. I am getting that tactile feel because the DFGT does have a notched bar which helps causes resistance against the cog which is the steering column but I wouldn't describe it as a clicking, just a very light ratcheting.

You ever remember those toys where you had a ring pull that was about 20cm long? You'd put the ring pull into some toy like a spinning top and then pull, your spinning top would then fall on the floor and start spinning?

Well you know that Vooooooooooo noise it makes? Remember the feel?

Well it's like that but quieter but it doesn't click.

Thanks for the clarification, Rylan. Maybe using the word 'clicking' wasn't a good idea in my original post. I love all these analogies! The spinning top is a good one! After reading these replies, I believe that this is how the wheel was designed and I'm just not used to it yet. Now I'm wondering if the G27 feels the same.

Man I think your right its just how its designed. I was cleaning two of my fishing reels today one a a daiwa sol(spiral cuts gears like a g27)and a Abu Garcia 6500 ( straight cut gears like DFGT ) I could lightly feel and hear the play in the straight cut gears in my Abu Garcia ,but not in the spiral cut ones in the daiwa sol . I would think the gears in a g27 are super smooth compared to the ones in a g25 or DFGT .

The funny thing is that the gears in my DFP seem way smoother than the gears in the DFGT. In fact, I've been using the DFP for years and never noticed this sensation until I tried out the DFGT and then went back to the DFP. When you know to feel for them, then you feel them. I ended up returning the DFGT because I just couldn't get used to the feel of it. After this experience, I love my DFP even more than before.
