I am currently in the Grand Valley 60 lap endurance using my new X1- so I am obviously lapping the AI.

But, at random points I get a message saying - 1 lap....then- minus 3 laps...etc.
I am now on minus 7 laps.

What does this mean?

That's your lead over 2nd place.

while i was doing indy i found that the time split saying i was one lap ahead really needed to have the amount of seconds as a pitstop would take longer than one lap of that track, so in the first stop you could tell if you were far enough ahead to come out in front

maybe something pd should consider if they add more short ovals / events where a lap is shorter than a pitstop

BTW does the 4 hour Miata race really last 4 hours? I started it and it tells you what lap your on but there is no count down clock. How do you know how much time is left so you can calcuated fuel and tires?
-7 Means you are 7 full laps ahead of 2nd place.

Look at your total lap time

a count down clock appears in the lower right corner towards the end

on the endurance hourly races all you need to do is stay a pitstop ahead, theres not much point in racing your nuts or tits off
lol
although if you do slow down you loose your rythme and fall off the floor

My total lap time doesn't keep time. Or am I misunderstanding?

you race for the number hours of that race, ie 4, the race ends at 4 hours, so the lap you are on at 4 hours is your last lap, the winner is the person that has done the most laps in 4 hours

the lap counter will just go on counting till you cross the line after 4 hours
the total race time is in the top right hand corner and should run normally like any other race
a countdown clock appears in the lower right hand corner towards the end of the race, can't remember when, 30 15 or 10 minutes to go

I'm at almost 2 hours and I'm 10 laps ahead and I'm bored to death! It's paused now and I hope it doesn't freeze up or shut down because I would hate to have to start over!

The countdown clock apears when you have 1 hour left and counts down from there.

You can use another method there, it only shows the '-x laps'-sign when 2nd place driver starts a new lap and therefore you know exact where he is on the track when it will be shown and off cause you know where you are :) so you can still calculate the distance between you and 2nd place driver :) - you can indeed get an idea about the distance

One questions
how many ai are there in the endurence race?
For example the nurbugring 24hrs in real life have like 200 cars racing at the same time
but in game this is obviously not possible, but how many cars are there
if there are only 10-20 cars it must be very boring
you only past a car per min it must feel like you are just driving on your own but not racing the others

True. Assuming you're in 1st place, if you and the AI in 2nd are on the same lap, you get split times at every sector the AI passes.

But after he's lapped, you only get the number of laps on screen when he passes the control line, so it's easy to figure out how far ahead you are.
