QUestion, How big of a Difference does an HDTV make?

i just bought gt5 and a ps3 from black friday sales. i'm playing the ps3 + gran turismo 5 on an old 40' CRT tv. i must say, graphics don't look that impressive at all. don't look much better than gt4. some stuff look copy and pasted from GT4, like the spectators for example. now is it just my tv or is some stuff really like this? would an HDTV make a big difference?
 
Go to the store now and buy a hdtv. Don't even finish reading my message just go. Your mind will be shattered. Plus you can play blue rays on the ps3 and again have your mind blown away. Only thing is I suggest you get HD cable as well if you have cable hooked up. Just because regular tv on a hdtv doesn't look that great. Right now I have a computer hooked up to my tv with s video and I can't even use it anymore because the picture disgust me after seeing everything else in HD than having to go to boring s video quality. Probably gonna buy a converter box so I can hook it up to HDMI.
 
HDMI will make so much of a difference it's unbelievable. It really will make your opinion of the graphics do a 180 degrees turn. And kind if late getting the best driving game ever, huh? (;
 
The one thing I notice with HDTV is how some cars don't look as well rendered as others in the out of car views.
 
You need an hdtv, the ps3 was designed to run in hd. I played my ps3 the first 2.5 years on a crt tv and it's night and day difference.
 
I've plaied on my PS3 on a standard TV for some time. But then along it came my SONY BRAVIA, 42". Plugged the PS3 with an HDMI cable and BAAAM! Suddenly EVERYTHING looked far much better! I even started playing games that I've already completed just to see all that awesomeness! And I must say, GT5 is the one that looked the best.

With an HD TV, and an HDMI cable, you will notice such a difference. You won't believe it.
Also, BluRay movies only play with HD TV, if you try and watch it on a normal TV, all you get is black and white.
 
Huge. I found the edges of the screen missing on my CRT, and text hard to read (it was only 32 inch). I lasted 3 weeks. Also as Deko Wolf-GTPT pointed out you can watch BluRay on HDTV.

You can watch a BluRay also on a CRT it just wont look as good ^^

Back to the topic, CRT to HDTV is a huge jump, everything will look better on it from your standard television to gaming. BR is just a nice addition to all of those.
 
There is a big difference even more if you get a 3D tv but you still will have a cardboard crowd nothing will get rid of that (which is the only thing I hate about GT5)

Those spectators look indeed very bad, even on an HDTV, there are some graphical flaws and inconsistencies that occur unfortunately and a lot of cars (Standards) and tracks are indeed ported from GT4 and as a result look far worse than the Premium content.

Having said that, an HDTV does make a huge difference overall and particular regarding the Premium content, and you don't buy an HDTV just for GT5 do you?
 
If your planning on using a HDTV specifically for gaming the I'd opt for a HD monitor. It will be less than a HDTV. I'm using a 24" Asus HD monitor for GT5 which I only paid $199 for.

If you want the least expensive, wait until Boxing Day/Week and there should be 50" Plasmas on for $500 or even less, clearing out the old models.

LOL thanks for the replies guys..

now the only problem have is selling the CRT and making space for the HDTV lol..i got no space and no one will buy the old ass CRT. and the TV sells for like 100$ and shipping would be probably close if not more than half of that lol. not even sure if it's worth selling

Sell it? I had a high end ProScan I couldn't give away 5 years ago...I can't imagine anyone paying more than $10 for one today...:sly:

LMAO. my big bro said the same thing to me, he said no one would even take even if i gave it to them lol. and i don't feel right throwing out a perfectly good TV...GG old technology.
 
Get yourself a HD TV and a HDMI kabel, you'll be blown to bits on how beautiful it suddenly is!
 
HD makes a big difference. Especially in cockpit view, you'll see all the details.

The spectators are very rough models though, they don't improve in HD. But they're just ment to be flying by on your sides, you're not really supposed to look at them.

Donate it to some charity than. Basically giving it to someone who can't afford anything.
 
Even completely ignoring the graphical quality, an HDTV would make it so all of the menus appear full screen instead of having to pull R1 to zoom in to see them.
 
Try looking online for great deals. Amazon is a good place to start. Buy your cables from Amazon also. I remember getting a 6 ft long HDMI cable for $3 total.

I've yet to see a retail store beat that.
 
An HD TV with an HDMI cable will give you a whole new look. Things are crisper and sharper, colours are more vivid and true, the sound can be better (depending on your speakers) because of higher quality sound frequencies of HDMI.

You'll wonder how you went without it! Most, if not all, games look amazing!

As for your dilemma with your old TV, donate it, like shmogt mentioned. There will be plenty of people who could use it.

Keep it as a family heirloom until then.👍 My old TV is in my kitchen and hooked up to an old PS1.

I have this 13 inch Goldstar TV my family got as a moving in present. We have an agreement where the first born child to go to college always gets this TV. No HDTV and all that mumbo jumbo until they completed one year.

Try looking online for great deals. Amazon is a good place to start. Buy your cables from Amazon also. I remember getting a 6 ft long HDMI cable for $3 total.

No offense, but when you pay $3 for a cable you're getting a $3 cable. You could have the greatest TV in the world, but if you play it through the crappiest cables you aren't getting the best possible picture out of the TV. You don't need gold plated cables but but at least buy some decent mid-price range cables to go with your several hundred dollar tv investment.

What Hi Fi is generally regarded as the go to place for impartial reviews on electronics...they accept no advertising revenue from the people who sell the products they review. That link takes you directly to cable reviews and you only have to read a couple of them to see that there are differences.

They also review tvs and as with the cables, a $400 tv is not the same as an $800 tv so do a bit of research before you walk into BestBuy and just buy whatever is on sale.
