I seem to have Drifting while Racing under control, where I am drifting around corners for speed. My times have improved. :)

I am now working on "Show Drifting" where I can get some big long showy drifts, really sideways. I can't quite seem to get it. Everytime that I start to get there, the rear end whips around and I spin out. I have tried every possible setting that I have seen on here for multiple cars that I like. I have even tried cars that I have never used, just to see if I can get it with something different.

I have tried to slow down, but the car doesn't want to initiate the drift when I slow down. I am trying to "over-power" the rear wheels to start the drift, no e-brake.

Any suggestions!?

I will post my cars and setups if that will help, but I think it is more me than my cars...

feint, shift lock and ebrake are the choices, choose and practice

drift on ppl nk4e

Hi and welcome to

:)

Don't worry. Many exhibition drifters around here have that same problem in the beginning. I think it would be better if you told us what car you use because some cars like the RX-7 FC and the Skyline R34 have different characteristics when they drift. If you have a problem of spinning out, then try to countersteer more so that the car can drift and release the gas pedal. Balancing between the countersteer and the throttle throughout the turn will help you drift the turn with a great angle and lots of smoke ;)

Also, keep in mind that when you try to exhibition drift, you don't have to floor the gas pedal/throttle the whole time. You can just tap the gas button/pedal to keep the car oversteering.

I hope that helps! :)

I think the problem that you are having is that your car just keeps on oversteering, so you keep on spinning out. If you are going for long drifts like Turn 4 on Tokyo R246, try to keep the car at an angle so when you drift, the rear wheels are smoking and you are not spinning out.

Other than that, practice and patience are the keys to drift with show.

Have you pulled off any long drifts before? If so, what did you do? Try to do the same thing if you did pull off a long drift and keep on going through the same turn, doing the same thing until you develop this "sixth sense" that tells you if you have too much angle or that the angle is not big enough.

I hope that helps :)

They're the same problems I had when I started out. The people around GTP really help you out so you have come to the right place. I took some advice and started drifting with an RX-7 RZ with simulation tires and i just put suspesion mods on it. This works really well and so does the 180sx. Just practice.

My biggest problem that i face now is smoke. I just cant get alot of smoke when most of the other drifters do. Has anyone got any hints on how to get more smoke from the tires?

The most common mistake is people think its easy to drift and then when they go and try it they can't do it succesfully...

What you want to do is just try and get the back to slide out a little until you understand what the car is doing... You said you race drifted and it helped out your speed... I asume you used relatively grippier (dunno if thats a word) tires, moving to sims is hard but if you practice and drive your car all the time on sims you will get used to them very quick... u can''t just mash on the throttle... you have to find ur balance point...

get at me on AIM tommmorow...

Stupid reason that kept me from drifting when I first started was having the steering assist on simulation instead of professional. I use the wheel and let me tell you I think it is impossible to drift with sim steering assist. If you are using the controller then I don't think it really matters what steering assist you have it on, you may just need to keep practicing and screwing around with cars and settings. I hope that helped at least a little bit.:)

I have also been playing GT3 for many years now (since it came out), I have always been a hybrid racer since it really helps improve lap times and make the game more fun. I am used to drifting with minimal counter-steer (some times none at all) and highest speed possible. Recently I am greatly impressed by the drifting videos from user of this fourm and also wanting to join this cool "art".
Can pros here give me some advice on which kind of drifting will be best suited for drift videos?
Large drifting angle?
Large counter-steer?
loads of smoke?

thanks a lot!

I'm not all too great at this, but I've had this problem before too. If you're running on sim tires, you might want to dump some hp, especially if you're using a DS2. If you're running a car that has 600 hp, you gotta remember that you've got about 1/8 of an inch to control the gas, where you would have about half a foot in real life. So, I suggest losing some hp and just relying on weight shift and breaking to start the drift, and then it shouldn't be too hard to keep sideways through the turn with the hp down.

Good point ;)

Mazdaspeed6S, do you think you can post your settings so we can help you on tuning your car?
