I've got one small question about something that I've been wondering for a while now. Feel free to close this thread if you think this is pointless (to the moderators).
Here it goes:

In Gran Turismo 5 (and GT5 Prologue), the steering wheels in the game (when in cockpit display) only have around 270 degrees of turning angle. Why is this? I thought for road cars they would've used 900° and for sport/racing cars something like 360° or something close to that used in real life.

What is the reason behind this, if anyone knows?

Thanks! :dopey:

Basically PD could not make the animations work when the wheel turned 900 degrees so they put that idea in the trash.

Probably, even though I do think they could've implemented that feature in the 5 years they've been working on 5. :yuck:

Considering that only 200 cars have the cockpit view and that the game has other more important needs i think that 900 degree animations are fairly low on the "things that GT5 needs to be sorted" list

I'm not saying they should change it, at least not right now with all the other glitches the game has. But im just curious as to why they made it 270 degrees in the first place; animating more degrees really isnt that hard, since every car has the same turning angle (so they wouldnt have to do it individually for each car)... I also think it would be slightly more like a simulator and give a more realistic feel to those using a wheel. The in-game wheel would turn as much as the wheel that the player is using (for example G27/Fanatec).
:)

I play LFS with interior view, steering wheel and driver's hands hidden.
I would play GT5 that way, also, if I could, that is.

I love the way the driver has his hands on the steering
wheel or don't have  and of course the gear changing, it's just non stop action.
There should definitely be a option to remove those silly hands and steering wheel.

The worst thing in GT4/5P/5 is noticing this. It's wrong, so wrong.

But, if I remember correctly... the force feedback wheels with 900deg simulate the actual amount each individual car is able to turn the wheel. The wheel's force feedback stops it from turning at the correct point for the car. I think I remember this happening in GT4.

it's not like it's super hard to animate...

I think they should just have the driver in the car move the wheel at super-human speeds if necessary. I wouldn't mind that.
