Question on updates?

I have some questions about the updates for GT6 and possibly other PS3 games. I brought the system home and put the game in to find out it had to do a bunch of updates, both to the system and the game. 14 updates for just the game! Which there isn't even room for on the 12gig system they sold me lol.

I discovered I can play it if I don't connect to the internet, so I did that and installed a 40 gig SSD later. 6 hours and 20 gigs later the game is ready to play. I guess the days of bringing a system and a game home and playing or over.

So the questions are: Does this game update every month? And if so will it keep using up more and more disk space each time it updates? And is this common for most PS3 games? I am not a huge gamer, but I would eventually like to get a few more games. Something where I can run around and blow stuff up maybe, or a fighting game and possibly even a need for speed title. If I am looking at 15 gigs or so per game and hours upon hours of updating I am not sure it is worth the hassle.

I am not talking like GTA or Call of Duty, I understand those are very popular titles and probably huge files with lots of updates.

Thanks for any help I can get.

There have been 15 more or less regular updates to the game, some of them huge, some quite small and you can expect that trend to continue. Unfortunately part of some of the updates are high quality videos that cannot be deleted or left out of the DLC package so you are stuck downloading them. It is definitely not common for games to include high volume videos in their updates and you can expect many more with the remaining 20 or so VGT cars, perhaps as much as 10 gigs or more, just in videos. Expect that 40gig SSD to be using up a large % of it's capacity if you want to continue to update the game and keep it current. Keeping it current is optional of course.

Thank you very much for such a quick response. And yes I noticed that yesterday after updating it. Most of what it updated wasn't much of what I wanted anyway. Like you said lots of videos, I see even the opening movie is different. I am in the process of installing a 1tb drive now. Started at 5 pm and its 11 now lol. It's said 5 min left for about half an hour. When they say "approx" they are not kidding, should be more like "It will be done when its done" How would a hardcore gamer live with not being able to use his system for 12 hours lol.

I just rented it, I have been waiting for 3 hours and its been stuck at 4 min to go for a 1/2 hr. I'm starting think somethings not right.

edit Thanks for posting I now know what to expect.
