Question Regards AI's HP

Hey All

When selecting a race and checking to see which cars will be up against you, it gives you the HP of the cars as well.

Now i always try to match the HP of the fastest car, knowing that if i drive good i should win.

There has been a few times though where ive drove well, yet been blown away, so i wondered if this is an accurate gauge to go by regards the HP of the competition?.

I cant see anywhere else where i can see the spec of the other cars im racing, unless im missing something?.

you should check weight as well, and grip grip grip.
if you have a bazillion bhp but no grip to pass the power to the road you will not win.
So take your apex book if you have it and tune your car to properly pass the power to the road ^^
Race soft tyres are key if you have a lot of bhp.
 
I dont buy racing tyres. I just use the sports soft ones. Maybe thats where im going wrong. I just brake earlier and take it easier through the corners. On racing tyres im guessing i can brake later and blast thru the corners...........car dependant offcourse.

I will get the racing tyres when i get to the more powerfull cars in the game though 👍

Even with identical weight and grip, identical *peak* horsepower is not an accurate indicator of an even match. People always seem to forget this. The faster car will "usually" be the one with the largest area under the hp/torque curve within the usable power band.

Another thing to consider is gearing. That can have a large influence on courses with either large straight aways or lots of hairpin turns. Cars with noticeable turbo-lag (high HP turbos) will generally fall behind in a course with many hairpins (barring amazing driving skills), but will excel at courses with long straight-aways.

Getting into the nit-picky, aerodynamics can also be a factor, as well as weight distribution in the car, largely influenced by the engine mount location (F/R/MR). This also brings up the drive wheels (F/R/AWD). Taking all of these into account along with braking and tires, now you also have to add under/oversteer into the equation.

As you can see, peak HP numbers are only the tip of the iceberg when comparing cars. All said and done, it doesn't mean much at all until you look at everything else.

Do the computer opponents have modified cars?

Obviously, yes. We can mod. So can they.

Sounds like there is more to it than just looking at the oponents rated HP.

Thanks for the info. I may have to adjust my take on how i enter a race with a particular car now.

Race tire in most races will be overkill. Around somewhere like Tsukuba Race soft vs Sports Soft has maybe up to 8 sec in an identical car....once you get into like the Expert races though I think you'll start to need race tires. I think thats what AI uses as well in those.
