Questions about GT5 Online from a first timer.

Hi all,

after finishing my 2 year mobile dongle internet contract i'm taking the plunge into the world of WiFi next month.

I have a few questions i need to ask, any help would be appreciated.

Can someone explain how the online dlc downloads work? do you have to pay for every car and track you download or are they free?

May seem like a silly question but i have no idea how it works.

With any DLC content, you will have to pay for it. The only exception to this is the family pack additions, but they only allow you to use car, paint, suit and track DLC on other accounts on the same PS3 the DLC was downloaded onto. First you will have to download and install game updates for GT5, which is handled automatically once you start up GT5. Then you will need to create a PSN account. Creating a PSN account wis free and will allow you to play games online. After, go to the PS Store and locate the DLC for GT5 that you'd like to have. After purchasing it and downloading the DLC through the PS Store, you will have to install it through GT5 DLC menu.

You're welcome. The DLC prices range from $3 to $6 USD.
 
The DLC is not really worth it mate i would not worry. There is more than enough cars and content to keep you amused if you are new. I have only been playing the game for 3 months and not even scratched the surface. I did eventually get the DLC jus recently ( as i am nearing completion ) and i say its overpriced for the content. That said, there is some nice rides in there and i'll get milage out the paints and tracks, but to re-iterate its not compulsive to get the DLC to be level with other gamers or enjoy what is an epic driving game.

Yeah, but you got to admit, Spa is definitely worth it. :D
 
I agree SPA is immense. But you can play it on the seasonal events. I'd say go enjoy the game and then like me decide if you want or need the extra DLC content to extend the replay and enjoyment of the game. I ended up deciding yes, i am willing to pay the extra price. Even though i think its heavy. Baring in mind i only payed £10 retail ( $15 ) for the game though. The lambo is worth it also:sly:

Basically what it boils down to is that it's a mixed opinion thing. I like to keep things fresh! :dopey:
 
Yeah i agree that the game itself has plenty to enjoy but i'll definately purchase a couple of things, i won't go mad though!

You'd think that they would offer a few freebies wouldn't you!
 
I like to consider the weekly Time Trials and/or Seasonals, along with a fresh OCD every other week, our free content. This is stuff that makes the gift of GT5 in our lives keep on giving. The DLC's are just icing on the cake, and cake aint free.

Hi, I have a question for you.

Why don't you connect your PS3 to your PC with a cable when using the mobile dongle network?
Just make sure its a "Patchcable UTP CAT5E or CAT6E twisted" cable.

It works like a charm for me. :D

There have been a few freebies. You got a couple stealth models, the GT 86, and another concept gt 86. Some were bonuses for getting dlc by a certain date, the GT 86 came with the last update. I don't really find hot wheels /matchbox prices too steep, but I do wish we could get the cars singly instead of 5 packs.

Yeah, but playing GT5 on your PS3 with the dongle doesn't use many mb pr day.
Maybe like 50 mb tops... :)

I don't think its that high either. :D
 
Playing in online races uses about 40mb/hour.

Playing the seasonals uses 5mb/hr.

I have a wifi hotspot with a 5gig cap. Downloads are the killer.... The latest small update used up 411mb.

How come after 4 hours of racing online on GT5 yesterday I still didn't pass 170 MB, and I also use my laptop with steam, xfire, teamspeak and surfing on facebook, GTPlanet and other sites while racing (in between the races of course)... ^^
I know we are using different providers, but I don't think the differences are that big.

Yeah, the killer is downloading and streaming videos/music.
Thats what uses the MB's...

But oh well... I am also looking forward to get fiber network when I move out.

That 40 is average for me. Sometimes it's higher or lower depending on how much time I spend on the computer while gaming. I use the Hotspot 4g through T-mobile

There was also a free X2011, a basically free X2010 and a whole new set of NASCAR skins. The car refresh tickets were pretty cool even if not really new content. Not sure what else there has been, other than many patches which were much more substantial than just bugfixes(personal taste about the decisions made in those patches notwithstanding).

Probably more free stuff added after release than any other game I've bought.

Hehe, I see what you tried to do there.. But over those hours I also surfed alot on the internet.... Which used alot of those 170 MB's... Not to mention being online talking on teamspeak.

So racing online isn't anywhere near 40 mb/h for me. Just saying.
Might have to do with lobby sizes though. As im mostly racing with friends, at the most we are 8-9...

Of course :). There are far too many variables, all guestimates. On the other hand I was THRILLED to find the seasonal events used next to nothing. I spent 4 hours on those yesterday.
 
I don't know how anyone can say that the DLC isn't worth it:crazy:. If you're 16 and cutting grass making $30 a week maybe it could be an issue for you to spend your $4 or $8 but come on. I spent $4 on a bottle of coke and a chocolate bar the other day:ouch:. If the cars aren't to your taste and you know you won't drive them then it's a waste of money for you because it's something you may never use but to say it isn't "worth" a handful of coins is ridiculous.
