Questions and innuendos about Moderators

I try to reply to every PM sent to me. I don't always make it, so don't take that as a challenge.

I am not currently on the staff anywhere else, and I do not run my own forums or site. However, from 1998-2002 or so, I was an administrator at www.neons.org (though I did not found that site either).

I wonder if it is a general rule for mods not to reply to PM's if there help or advice is needed? Even though the question seems to be stupid.

I find that rude and impolite!

It depends on the PM, I try to answer each one, unless it just says "nice avatar". Usually, I get them from the established members, so I know they'll read it. But occasionally, I get them from new members that have 0-3 posts, who don't want to search for anything within the GT forums.

That's definitely true for me too, I have the memory and attention span of a

Except for Famine ofcourse, he is very helpfull!

:)

Famine is very helpful. Nobody ever sends me a PM. :( And I check it every 5 minutes, every day.

Wow....I didn't expect such a response from the mod squad. :embarrassed: And from a few I didn't know existed before that question (Pako & Giles).

Famine - PM your site link to me, I don't mind checking that naughty good stuff out. :D:mischievous:

Giles - Checked out your site, and the mini-dozer in the gallery!! :D It's like Scoop from Bob the Builder. I liked the Fantasy F1 idea too. 👍

Pupik - I found my house on Wikimapia. :D And while my mate was over too it looks like.

For the longest time I thought Famine may have put me on his ignore list (Can mods do that?). :(
Oh well, it wasn't important and I didn't want to keep bugging him.

Famine, have you ever let Milford Cubicle "use" some of the "features" (like baanings ;)) of your mod account? (whether it's been with your permission or when you weren't looking)

Or have you told her she's not allowed to?

Mods can do that, but it'd be stupid. Say I put a member on ignore and, late one night when I'm the only mod online, they start posting up gay porn which I can't see...

Nope. Allowing other people access to your account is a baanning offence - not that she'd use it even if I let her.

Though "let" has something of a moveable definition.

EDIT: What are we like? GTP Mods - refuge of the permanently bewildered.

Add me to the list as well. I do my best to try and get PMs dealt with straight away, but I must confess I have come across 'forgotten' PMs when cleaning out my in-box.

SO a big fat sorry to anyone I may have ever forgotten to reply to.

:guilty:

Scaff

That's exactly why I was wondering if it was possible. Also, since I don't want to try, can members ignore mods? I'm sure that would also be stupid, but is it possible, and can mods or admins see who you have on your ignore list?

You can choose to ignore a Mod, but it just puts a big red target next to the ban button on your user name. :)

I personally haven't ignored any member whatsoever, though lately there is one specific member getting awfully close to try out my still MIB ignore button.

Yeah, you have.

No, it's not you, you're on the other end of member-liking in my book. 👍

When Jordan’s account was carried over, it was put at 658 because vB felt like it. Afterwards, when new people registered, the software isn’t going to continue there – it went to the lowest counter, which is 1, and kept moving up the counter from there (of course, skipping 658 and other existing accounts so as not to create duplicates).

Sage's explanation is actually incorrect. When you transfer posts and users from one type of forum software to another, you must first set up and install the new forum software (in our case, vBulletin). During the installation process, you have to create your first account, which has an ID of 1. When I moved over the rest of the user accounts, my old one was brought along as well and was inserted into the database with an ID of 658. Obviously, keeping the same account with all of my posts was more important to me than the user ID number, so I made the old one an administrator, demoted the original vB account, and went on my way. It's perplexed curious users ever since. :P

This is more directed at Jordan than the moderating team (but all of you guys are more than welcome to answer if you can) and is a bit off-topic but figured I'd ask anyway.

The question being is: Do you own or are admin for any other sites except GTP and if so, what sites??

Mafs!!
No, GTPlanet takes up far too much of my time, although I constantly have ideas for new sites floating around in my head. I love almost everything about web development. :)

No, users cannot place moderators or administrators on their ignore list.

I used to have MachOne on ignore to speed up loading times.

Don't worry, alot of people seem to find a way around that!

Can be like that, can't it?

:grumpy:

Are reported posts anonymous, or do the mods get an email saying "Tom Servo reported this post on the grounds of...", instead of "a user reported this post..."?

They’re not anonymous (damn, that’s a really hard word to spell when you’ve just woken up :boggled:).

Assuming that you're referring to members who choose to not have their "online status" displayed, then yes, they can.

Eating donuts. Wait, no…

If you’re talking about strictly what the majority of my time spent on GTP is, it’s the same as anybody else: browsing. The various moderating tasks take up time, but definitely not the majority of my GTP time – this forum self-regulates itself quite nicely. 👍
