Questions about the Porsche 911 GT2 Wheel.

I'm thinking about getting the Porsche 911 GT2 Wheel soon and thought i would ask a few questions before making my purchase.

1.Does the wheel have it's own table clamps?
The reason i ask is because my Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel had these built in the wheel.Does the Porsche wheel have them built in as well?

2.Are the Paddle Shifters good?
The reason i ask this is on my Logitech Driving Force GT all you have are buttons and no paddles.Are there actual Paddles on the wheel and not just small buttons?

I'm looking to get the wheel and CSR pedals.I've already looked at insidesimracing and their review has got me hooked on this wheel.These two questions are really my only concerns with the wheel.Insidesimracing really didn't go into these two so i'm hoping you guys could help me out a bit.

It does, but the clamp isn't the greatest...I would hardmount or I believe that there is a clubsport clamp that you can buy.

It does have real paddle shifters that screw into buttons much like what the dfgt has. They are quite usable, much better than just the buttons...I've never had a complaint.

These.are from using a gt3rs, and I'm almost certain that the gt2 is physically exactly the same.

The table clamp is included, it does work but will move around at bit if you get aggressive with the wheel. I would recommend hard mounting if possible.

The paddle shifters are probably the weak point of this wheel design. Although they work fairly well, they do have some issues. A weak return spring, a pivot that isn't real tight and not enough travel lead to double shifts on occasion.

The new CSR wheel has a new paddle shifter design which appears to be much improved. It's basically the same base unit with a new wheel attached. I have not used the CSR wheel myself so can't speak from personal experience.

I have the GT2 wheel and it's a great wheel except the paddles shifters could be better.

1. Yes, GT2 has table clamp but it's not built in (you can remove the clamp if you're hardmounting the wheel).
I must say that Fanatec's standard table clamps are horrible, if you want to clamp it - buy a ClubSport table clamp.

2. GT2 has buttons to which paddles are added, techically it's like DFGT with Gran Turgismo paddles. It feels much better than DFGT Gran Turgismo mod but not as good as on G27.
Paddles are not bad, there not the best but they're usable (and much better than DFGT).

I have an old heavy Computer desk that i mount my Driving Force GT Wheel on and it stays in place pretty good.I just found a photo of the clamps of the GT2 Wheel and they do look similar so i would expect them to clamp just as good.If not i can always get the other clamp down the road.

Sounds like the paddle shifters will be pretty decent.Since i don't plan on getting the Shifter the paddle shifters will have to do.

The clamp is very poor, the DFGT clamp can screw up pretty dam tight, as much as your strength allows really. With the GT2, it feels fiddly and weak even when its not clamped, you loosen a screw at the front, push the clamp up, tighten the screw then push up these 2 flaps to "clamp" the wheel. However, as others have said, it moves way more than you would want a wheel to move. Hard mounting or purchasing the clubsport clamp is a must.

As for the paddles, I like them, pretty similar feel to the DFGT ones imo but with the option of adding actual paddles (metal ones included with wheel, carbon ones optional).

I just seen that.Some guy did a review on YouTube an i seen the clamps.Those clamps look very poor.It's like they purposely did this so you would have to buy the clamp set.

If you dont push the wheel as far back as it will go before clamping it down, the clamps will hold much better. There is a little bump that hinders the clamps from holding well if you push it all the way back.

Not saying the clamps are great, but the do the job. If you are very rough with the wheel it will move around, but under.normal race use its ok. Only real consistent down side is the clamp allows the wheel to be tipped.forward if you pull on it.

Dont second guess the quality of these awesome wheels because of the clamps, these wheels have powerfull force feedback and really shouldn't be clamped anyways. Unless the computer desk is a priceless antique which i'm guessing its not, just drill 2 quarter inch holes on the top (hardly noticable and easily patched if you want to sell it) and attach two 50 cent hex bolts from a hardware store to the wheel, two wing nuts will help you ratchet it down tight with just your fingers. The best part is it will be rock solid, cheap, and easily removable. DRILL TWO HOLES! Trust me, clamps are cheap and break or move around, and why pay for "clubsport clamps" when all you need is one percent engineering ability to bolt it down tight!

Trust me. If you can hard mount it, you're way better off.

Another advantage of the table clamp is better mount for the h-shifter. The aluminum tubes, while ok for the seq. shifter, moves too much for the H-shifter. I have the table clamp but have got the wheel clamp to work before using a piece of wood (wedge) and Easy liner.

So you can do this with the GT2 wheel as well?Hardmounting the wheel i mean.

I seen that the CSR has this,but i didn't see it for the GT2.

I have no problem drilling two holes in this old computer desk.I only use it now for mounting my Logitech Driving Force GT wheel to.
