Well i have a normal 21" and thats certainly big enough. Most of the time i prefer having decent sound than having super duper graphics. (Burnout is great hearing all the cars woosh past my head).

barryl85, where is this £350 HDtv??

But back to my original point, 1 question, would you say its worth getting a 360 if i dnt have broadband or HD??

Also, i certainly wont be buying a PS3 at the £425 its suppost to be. So at some point im probably going to want a 360 anyways.

I've just ordered an XB360, should arrive on Saturday.

Regarding online, all I have to do is plug my ethernet (or USB whatever the 360 uses) connection into the XB360 and it'll automatically detect a connection and connect me to live, or do I need anything else?

Yes. I heard, that wireless lan might be a bit more complex depending on the modem. Apart from that it is pretty much plug&play. Have fun :).

It arrives tomorrow, unforunately I won't have much time to get used to it since I'll be working in the afternoon. I've got PGR3 and I've got the plug and play charger thingy for the pad. I've spent over £1000 this week, got a projector, a ceiling screen, some new shelving, the XB360, PGR3 and the plug and play thingy and I still need a new surround sound system and leather couch oh and the gold subscription to XB live. Well, replace the word need with want.

Just plug in your ethernet cord into the 360, set up an Xbox live account, and you're ready to go. :)

good stuff, I'll have to get a few games in with people on here some time.

The only thing I agree with is that DLP and LCD porjection technologies aren't that great. They're slim, not too heavy, and they don't cost THAT much, you can get a 50" to 60" for reasonable price nowadays, but the viewing angle on them still sucks, and brightness isn't too great. True LCD on the other hand, one with 720p native anyway, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages greatly compared to a CRT HDTV. It's not THAT cheap for a 37" LCD, but a good one like a Panasonic Viera or one of those Samsungs or Toshibas, or the SHARP Aquos, those TV's own if you ask me.

I'm rather happy with my 46" Samsung DLP. Viewing angles are no prob because it's more than big enough to be seen from anywhere in my living room (which is nearly 30' long). In 720p and 1080i the pic is sharp, clear and highly detailed. The colours are very good too. It's only flaw is black levels. If the image is very dark (say the inside of a cave) blacks tend to merge and detail is lost. However many large screen tv's (that's 40"+) tend to suffer from low black levels. Saying that I don't think it's too bad and I'm quite used to it.
The other important thing to note is maintenance. The lamp will need to be replaced after 8000+ hrs of use. However, it's cheaper than plasma maintenance and does'nt suffer from dead pixels like LCD's.
360 games look very nice indeed on it. Even GT4 in 1080i is very impressive.

live4speed, you got a projector? Which kind, LCD or CRT or something else? Does it have HDMI etc?

Anyway, if people are wondering whether or not to get a HDTV for the 360 (and PS3 in some cases) then if you can afford it do it. There are certainly HDTV's around for under £400 such as a 20" Toshiba LCD www.dealtime.co.uk
I'll never go back to SDTV now....

Well when I buy a HDTV someday in future (probably next year) then I go for 1080 p. These inbetween things suck imo, if I spend money for a new TV, it should be a good one, ready for future, not stuck in the middle ;)

You can pick up good HDTV's for under £1k.
But not really good 1080P, which is not necessary atm, sure, but you will end up having a 2nd class (1080i/720p)TV in 2008 or so.I think I rather wait ...
A good LCD 1080p seems to be the Philips 37PF9830 for 3k EUR, which is a little too much for me, I should get similar quality for 1800 EUR or so in mid/late 2007...

It depends. If you're going to buy some full-fledged 46", then 1080p would be the way to go (when TV prices drop some), but for other non-main TVs, like mine (26" LCD with 1080i/720p support), you should go "in the middle", like you described.
