Hello!

Been playing GT3 and am about 20% done. Got a few questions.

1. TCS controls wheel spin, if I'm not mistaken... so is turning TCS off or setting it to 1 advisable for someone playing using the DS2 controller? Should I stick to the button or switch acceleration/brake to the right analog stick?

2. Is the Camaro Race car tail-end happy or is it just me with too much wheel spin?

3. What is the first thing I should adjust for a tail-end happy car?

4. What is the first thing I should adjust for my race cars? I lower all my cars as low as possible, but don't change my springs... which leads me to ask...

5. How do I know if my car is bottoming out on a track? I'm looking for scraping sounds, but there seems to be none. The only difference I can see with a lower car with not-lowered car is that it is slower on the sand traps.

6. Why is there a mitsubishe NSX series and an Acura NSX? When people here talk of NSX, which NSX are they referring to?

7. Could someone point me to a site/thread or tell me the differences between FF, FR, MR, and 4WD cars in terms of handling and capabilities? Suggestions for driving styles for the different types also appreciated greatly.

8. Why do AI cars pit on the LAST LAP or something like that on some races? It is so stupid, the AI car that is trailing me is 2 seconds behind me, then pits! He finishes last... does this happen every time?

9. Is there any way to fix the rear view mirror? It doesn't show the enemy car until it is really very close, but when you look behind, you can see cars even though they are far away, but do not show up in the rear view mirror.

10. Is the order of getting upgrades important, or can I install everything in any order and get the same results in the end?

11. Is it more advisable getting lighter body at the start, or getting good brakes and shocks?

12. OFF TOPIC... could I attach a USB mouse (the type for the PC) on the PS2 and will it work normally, or will I have to do some setting up?

I guess that's all for now. Thanks to anyone who could help!

Oh, and one more question:

13. When I finish a race event/series, I get a bonus car when I get all gold cups or if I am the champion... does it follow that I can re-run the race and re-win all bonus cars? Or are there cars that I can win only once, meaning, no matter if I repeat the race event/series, I will win only money and no bonus car?

Thanks!

Wellcome to GTP.
Here's my little help.

1.- It's up to you, and your abilities/skills.
2.- It depence on the TCS and the pressure you do to the accelerator.
3.- tail-end???????
4.- You should adjust all adjustable parts in the car to make it faster.
5.- If the car touches the ground, lots of sparks comes out of the tail.
6.- I think Honda.
7.- Ask Famine.
8.- Ask Famine.
9.- I don't think that is fixable.
10.- You only must get the oil change first.
11.- Ask Famine.
12.- I've tried that whit no result.
13.- Yes, you'll win only money.

PS: Famine is the master of knowledge of GT3.;)

I'll take number 8 if I may.

The AI pits when it's tyres are done. If that means lap 9 of a 10 lap race then that's what it will do. Whereas any normal sane sensible person will stop half way on lap 5 to avoid completely red tyres.

And number 10, you can do them in any order. The end result is the same

nah you cant fix the rear view mirror I only use it for a guide as to where they are gonna pass me (round corners) welcom to gt planet

I'll offer a few answers.

Should I stick to the button or switch acceleration/brake to the right analog stick? Lower TCS = more power getting to your tires. This means you need better throttle control, as it increase the chances of spinning the tires. I'd say move to the sticks to give you better ability to control acceleration.

2. Is the Camaro Race car tail-end happy or is it just me with too much wheel spin? You may have added too much power. Also, it's likely that you are stomping the throttle instead of easing it on.

3. What is the first thing I should adjust for a tail-end happy car?
Lose the power mods, and ease up on the throttle. ALso dropping your inital LSD will help a bit. This is such a loaded question that it is hard to answer. Perhaps you may want to expand upon it.

4. What is the first thing I should adjust for my race cars? I lower all my cars as low as possible, but don't change my springs... which leads me to ask... Stiffen the springs and lower it a bit. Don't go all the way to the bump stops. I usually drop the LSD and tighten up the transmission

5. How do I know if my car is bottoming out on a track? I'm looking for scraping sounds, but there seems to be none. The only difference I can see with a lower car with not-lowered car is that it is slower on the sand traps. Listen to the engine. Take a few test runs at Seattle, and note the engine sound changes when you launch. The engine note is directly related to traction. WHen this changes, the egine note changes.

6. Why is there a mitsubishe NSX series and an Acura NSX? When people here talk of NSX, which NSX are they referring to? Actually it's Acura and Honda. One is distributed in Japan, the other (Acura) is a US product. Either or both, they don't have a big difference.

7. Could someone point me to a site/thread or tell me the differences between FF, FR, MR, and 4WD cars in terms of handling and capabilities? Suggestions for driving styles for the different types also appreciated greatly. Egads, nothing like a loaded question. I can't answer that in a short paragraph. Search around and you should find more info

8. Why do AI cars pit on the LAST LAP or something like that on some races? It is so stupid, the AI car that is trailing me is 2 seconds behind me, then pits! He finishes last... does this happen every time? Not everytime, but it's an unfortunate miscalculation on PD's part. The AI are programmed to pit when their tires are a certian shade of wear.

9. Is there any way to fix the rear view mirror? It doesn't show the enemy car until it is really very close, but when you look behind, you can see cars even though they are far away, but do not show up in the rear view mirror. Nope, you're out of luck there

10. Is the order of getting upgrades important, or can I install everything in any order and get the same results in the end? There is no significant order to adding power. Any path you take will garner the same end result

11. Is it more advisable getting lighter body at the start, or getting good brakes and shocks? Traction is the key first. then light weight 1/2 (3 is overrated). Then add power.

12. OFF TOPIC... could I attach a USB mouse (the type for the PC) on the PS2 and will it work normally, or will I have to do some setting up? I don't think that you can add a mouse. What reaction are you hoping for?

Hope this helps

Hello and thanks for the welcome!

First off, I can't see how I can "ease on" the thottle using the buttons, what I do is I "blip" the throttle, meaning, a succession of press and release sequences timed according to the "feel" of the car. Any suggestions how to "ease on" the throttle using the DS2 controller? I guess the sticks will help, I'll give that a try...

As for the AI, well, it's kinda funny doing a race, having the AI faster than you, and yet, you still race on because you hope it will do the stupid pit on the last lap syndrome

I keep hearing about LSD, but I'm not sure what it means... isn't that one of those bad drugs  LOL...

In clarification of question #3, I would like to know how to keep the rear of the car in control in cars that tend to spin out. However, after playing with GT3 for a while, it seems to me that with enough TCS, ANY CAR will take a lot of effort to spin out of control. So, is the solution to "wiggly rears" just to increase the TCS?

As for stiffening the springs, I'd just like to clarify if harder springs is set to the left or to the right? Also, in "stiffening," do I adjust the shock bound and rebound rates?

On the issue of bottoming out, is this observable while racing, or am I stuck with watching replays? I race using the front view, not the behind the car view, so there's some problem there... I have a GTone that I set as low as it could go, I'm watching for engine sound difference, and yet, there is none, but on replay, I see that I scatter sparks every so often. What "sound" should I look for?

Finally, somebody please present me with a logical reason not to go out and use the GTone on each and every race it can run. I mean, why use an "inferior" car when it handles like a beauty, sounds smooth, and looks good? Oh, and "for competition's sake, so that driver skill will determine the winner" reason does not count here, if it did, we'd all be racing stock cars. :D

As for the mouse, I am playing a few shooter games and am having trouble adjusting to the sticks... did you or did you not have success with them?

Thanks for the great help!

Some of us don't find whupping the AI into oblivion as a very fun past-time. How will you cope on iLink/online/2-player mode when you can't deal with the cars around you?

The DS2 buttons are touch sensitive - like keyboards (err, the musical ones, not the computer ones). The less pressure you put on the button, the less effect it has. This in turn answers the lack'o'traction question - by being less effusive on the X button you can grab hold of almost any "wiggly rear" car without TCS. A notable exception is the TVR Speed 12, for which a TCS of 1 is pretty much mandatory.

Additional: On most suspension parts, higher numbers correspond to harder/stiffer suspension. Damper settings of 10 are stiffer than those of 1. Stabiliser settings of 7 are stiffer than those of 1. Spring rates of 20.0kgm are harder than those of 1kgm.

Cars produce sparks when bits of them hit the ground at high speed - aka "bottoming out".

Ah! Thanks for the info Famine... I'll give your suggestions a try. Could you answer the other questions that were "for you"?

Thanks

You could just raise up your ASM a bit... should make the care more stabile

Re 3: Depends where the car oversteers. Hairpin exit and high speed corners require different things to avoid oversteer. Different power levels require different setups, as do different tracks and different tires, at least to some extent. No, it isn't very easy, but at least it's reasonably realistic.

LSD=Limited Slip Differential

Also, turning the TCS up will help a whole lot in keeping the rear of the car in line (in RWD cars of course) but the TCS also lowers the power to the wheels and will slow the lap times of a good driver. My suggestion would be to practice with the TCS off so that when you get good enough, you won't rely on it. A fast driver with TCS and ASM off will always beat a fast driver with them on.

what race series do i have to complete to get the viper gts-r? i'm 76.9% complete and really want that car!

Nah, bad idea...it creates understeer and does make your lap times higher. TCS is okay on the other hand...depending on what kind of bhp you are putting out.

Hi! I think I forgot to mention this, but wanted to ask

1. How do I figure out each car's powerband? When buying stuff, there are items that seem to be good for those with high torque, for those with broad powerbands and so forth. Someone pls help me figure this out.

2. In what terms would a higher toqued car perform? Does more torque mean faster acceleration? IIRC, more torque means more pulling power, but that's for trucks and haulers.

Thanks!
Enav

1) Test the cars out...do some laps around the test course shifting at the same time during different runs (One time shift 5000 each gear, second time shift 5500 for each gear, etc until you run the fastest lap) I think.

2) Higher torque means more pulling power like you said, I'm quite sure that practically is quick acceleration.

If you have the PAL version of GT3, you have to complete the Amateur League to get the car.
