I think I know the answer to this question, but I just want to double-check with the forum here.

Is Driver Rating ONLY tied to the racing portion of Sport mode? In other words, performance in the Time Trials has no effect on it?

Yes. This is why you can see people with a D/C driver rating or similar and yet be in the top split of Time Trials.
OK, thanks for confirming. I guess my rating of E is because I've never tried the on-line racing . Maybe I just need to put my feet in that water a bit. So many horror stories make me think it would just be frustrating.

Give it a go and don't take it too seriously. Just run your own race and let the clumsy drivers take themselves out. I wouldn't play GT7 if it wasn't for the online racing.
Personally, there's no AI that can beat playing against other people.

Yeah, I think I've had a mental block against it. I've also been afraid to not be aware of some etiquette and/or being the clumsy driver and making some accidental, stupid move that pisses someone off. I've been trying to be a 'better' driver and avoiding AI at all costs (even if they slam on the brakes right in front of me for some dumb, unknown reason).

Thanks for the encouragement. I may have to work up the nerve to give it a shot. Do you just run the Daily races, or do you join random lobbies and see what happens?

Daily races are a great place to start. Just do some practice laps to make sure you know your brake points etc. And at some point you WILL be the clumsy driver (anyone who says they haven't is a liar!). When it happens, apologise to anyone affected, learn from it and have a laugh about it. It's only a game after all 🙂

As a D-Driver I entered a Daily Race and was quite surprised that I was the only one: All the other entrants were C-Drivers. In the grid I started beyond top 10 and finished last. My question: Why can't I be placed in a race of D-Drivers only? With my qualifying time I should have reached a good top-10 in the grid.
Sorry if this is the wrong thread, I am looking forward to any relevant information.

Why would you want to be with B drivers and not C while you are D ?

You probably ended up with C drivers because there were too few Ds to race with you.

Thanks. My fault. Post edited: Wanna be with D drivers instead of C, of course.

Well, you need to do some more races and you'll be C 😁

To progress, I like the rules from Luc Nodaro on DG Edge :
  • Don't engage a group of cars
  • Do not go outside someone you don't trust (in lower lobbies = don't go outside someone)
  • Make friends and allies
  • Do no over react (mistakes happen especially in lower lobbies, don't escalate the situation, don't retaliate)

And I'd add :
  • finish all your races, never quit, even if you've been punted into oblivion and are dead last
  • focus on driving cleanly and doing a proper race without mistakes, no need to be the fastest, just climb the positions with the mistakes of others
  • if you push someone out, wait for him and let him pass, his race may be ruined but at least you apologize by your action

Very helpful, thank you.
In GT Sport I used to be C driver, but in GT7 I never reached that Level. There was an app "GT Companion" where you can watch your progress by points. Is there any similar for GT7?
