The final ARC race at Motegi reminded me how much I love driving low-powered cars with great handling and lots of grip on smooth wide-open tracks -- shaving off tenths by being smooth, hitting the braking points and conserving momentum -- rather than fighting to keep a monster on the road and off the walls. :grumpy:

Here's the first of a few easy, addictive, low-commitment combos I've been cooking up ... enjoy!!

berlinetta_apricott_hill_reverse.jpg

Quick Pick:
Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe ('99) @ Apricot Hill Reverse

Track:
Arcade Mode / Time Trial / Original Circuits / Apricot Hill Reverse

Car:
Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe ('99)
  • +20% Power (196hp)
  • -10% Weight (855kg)
  • Sports Soft Tires

Rules:
  • Have fun! ;)
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
  • rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • no contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • if you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • no hybrids
  • no cheating of any kind
  • nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • save your replay ('save ghost' icon)

Deadline, Discussion & Verification:
Post your best times in the thread. It's a permanent spot race, so there is no deadline. Take your time and have fun! Replays are appreciated, but not required.

Here's my first shot at it :)

0'26.368 (have seen 0'26.1)
0'59.108 (have seen 0'58.9)
1'15.105
1'33.355

Great combo, Luke. :D

I love both the car and the track. Yeah, actually the whole concept behind this race. 👍 👍

I'll be very busy the rest of the week, but this race should be a perfect stress releaser, so I'll get in a time sooner or later. :dopey:

Gave it a go last night, easy with the throttle lift or your time will die.

26.908
1.00.081
1.16.062
1.34.456

Think I can get a high 1.33.xxx next session, fun combo Luxy. 👍

Very enjoyable combo. 👍 The Berlinette is such a fun car to drive. :D

My first go gave:

26.316
59.214
1'15.504
1'33.778

Someone asked me to come and check out this race, and I have to say it
sounds like fun. I will give it a try tomorrow and see how I do:).

Great times guys! Glad you're enjoying the race :)

You do have to be very careful not to let the car slide ... that's one reason I love low-powered cars ... momentum ;) Harder, in many ways, to drive fast than a monster...

Ok here is my time, it is a fun car to drive:).

T1-26:745
T2-59:850
T3-1:15:948
Total-1:34:157

I do feel a little silly because I went and got a good time, but when I checked
I found out I went the wrong way:ouch:, I got a 1:34:144 on normal verson of
this track. And I found it ok to drift this just a little bit:), but too much and the
car go's out of control:scared:. Ok arora I have a time for you too beat. Good luck:tup:.

Ran a few more tonight, not much improvement on total time but the splits show promise. :dopey:

26.521
59.556
1.15.929
1.34.208

Took it real easy in the last two sectors to protect the first sub 1 min t2.
Nice time James.

This is an addictive combo Luxy 👍

Just a little more and you will beat:tup:, than I guess I will have to try again:).

Ran a few laps on this after work this morning and my best lap has ...

26.244 / 58.949 / 1'14.926 - 1'33.038

I have seen 26.0's at T1 so I know there's a bit to be made with some precision at the chicane 👍 ... Nice combo Luke

btw .. NTSC replay saved, but I should get a faster lap next session :)
Cheers
Ron.

Did I mention this car is extremely sweet to drive? Well... It is. :D

I had another session and got lucky after just 7 laps.

26.088
59.069
1'15.050
1'33.222

Quite nice run and it'll probably take a lot more patience than I have ATM to improve on it, so very likely the last time from me.

PAL replay is as usually available, so if you got even the slightest wish to see it, don't hesitate to ask. 👍

@Luke. Any plans for when the next easy, addictive, low-commitment combo is hitting the shelves? :D

@Luke. Any plans for when the next easy, addictive, low-commitment combo is hitting the shelves?

Yes I would like to know this as well because with what little I drove the race I found it to be very fun:).

I was waiting to see how this one went ... and it seems to have done alright :) I'll post another combo later tonight :D

Hey ...Luxy:) Do you have a leaderboard for this challenge somewhere?

I was looking in your intro for one, but I don't see anything? I'm getting warmed up now to make a few trial runs.

Nope no leaderboard, for two reasons. I want to keep this low-commitment for me, too :D More importantly, I want to keep it fun, friendly and not too competitive.

Last effort shows, 26.436/59.568/1.15.865/1.34.068, Really wanted a 1.33.xxx, maybe later but I'm on to the next one...

Nice times to all the regulars 👍 and Marc to.

Did better than I have all day and yesterday on this quick race, I have cut 3 sec. off the times before now.
To me this car is the quirkiest of all we have used on these quick picks, maybe it was the nature of the track. It was fun never the less!!

T1-28.624
T2-1.02.176
T3-1.19.665
Lap-1.38.570

ENJOY THESE QUICK PICKS, CAN'T WAIT FOR ANOTHER,,,O.D.D.

Very cool car and it was tonnes of fun on this track. After my try today, here is the best I managed:
T1 - 0'26.340
T2 - 0'59.195
T3 - 1'15.446
Lap - 1'33.584
