Quick Question About Mods And Locking Threads

Um, easy. The discussion was over, and it went off-topic with the .gif. The mods knew it no longer held any value.

Besides that, mods don't necessarily have to give any reasons as to why they lock a thread. I certainly don't on another forum.

And it does not matter who locked it.

With this and Diego's threads, it looks like we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.

Yeah, right, but I didn't asked WHY, I asked WHO. As in WHO locked that thread. You completely missed the gest as to what I was saying.

I'm not DEMANDING that they tell me. I just want to know before I die (which may be tomorrow, by the way) exactly who locked thread. Simple.

PS: for some reason your Jessica Alba avatar with her hazelnut-tanned skin is making me...well, I don't know if I can say it, but it's a five-letter word, and it rhymes with corny

Why must you know, and what are you going to do with the information?

out of curiosity why are you worried who locked it several months after it happened when you never posted in the thread? Threads don't get locked because one mod has a vendetta or doesn't agree with the opinions getting expressed... therefore it shouldn't matter who locked it.

EDIT: treed by the Maan

My apologies for that then. :ouch:

No worries. I feel the same sometimes. :p

Well, I really hate to sound like a skipping record, but here goes:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME IF YOU DON'T WANT TO.

If you really think you need to lock this thread, then by all means, go ahead and lock it, Daan. I was just curious.

Aren't people allowed to be curious on this forum?

This request seems to be more loaded with *someone's* seemingly near-vindictive attitude rather than a plain curiosity. The thread that was locked had run out of potetnial except for becoming a flame fest, and even that seemed to have been running out of steam. Sure the discussion seemed strong at first, but then it went downhill...

resists urge to lock thread without leaving a note...

I apologize if I came off as being a so-called "emo kid", but if I didn't walk away from that particular post, it more than likely would become heated between the two of us, and more than likely I would have been banned myself.

So, apology accepted?

Certainly people are allowed to be curious. We always invite questions about moderator activity. We may not always answer it, but asking is never a problem. And Jordan takes user contact seriously, so if there is ever a problem with a mod, feel free to contact Jordan, Der Alta, or myself. And if there is ever a problem with the admins (Der Alta and me), by all means go straight to Jordan with it.

The reason we are hesitant to answer your simple question is this:

The mod staff here works very hard to moderate consistently and present a single face to the community. Behind the scenes there is a large amount of discussion about appropriate actions and what should occur. Therefore, in all but the most obvious cases, it is highly likely that more than one mod has already seen and approved the intended action. It's literally irrelevant which particular staff member pushed the button, because we've already discussed the action (or at least discussed a policy in advance).

As Duke said, I have always been happy to deal with any user complaints about moderation issues, and I feel that all have been dealt with fairly. This particular request seems very strange and slightly suspicious to me, due to your passionate interest in the subject despite any real connections to the thread in question. If you could be more transparent as to why you want/need this information it would be very helpful. Feel free to contact me via private message if you don't feel comfortable discussing it on the public forums.

Trust me, it's nothing like you think it is. I'm not trying to bring back nafai23 or anything like that, if that's what you are implying. All I want to say about this is from now on, when a moderator locks a thread, I want them to make a comment, all right? so that way I don't get the impression that a non-moderator locked the thread. Simple. I've got nothing against anybody, nor am I friends with this "Emo Kid'. Simple as that.

Thanks!

No one but a moderator can lock a thread, except for Premium members who may lock only threads they start. So if a thread is locked, you have a 99.7% chance it was a moderator who locked it.

..and if it was started by a non-premium member, a full %100 chance.
