Quick question regarding the 'Ring..

I know there are several versions of the Nurburgring in game, such as the basic 24hr (from GT4), the two variants of the "modern" F1 layout, and the 24hr version incorporating the F1 circuit...ok ?
But.....does the "real" version make an appearance ?

Ok, by real, I mean the track as used by the paying public who visit and takes tours around...you can see the track entry/exits along the very last long straight.
I just thought it would be fun/kool to start and stop your racing from there if you were online...give people plenty of room to park and watch too.

I see what you mean. Actually in FM3 the start finish line was on that long straight just next to that parking lot / coffee shop.
I remember playing a racing simulation on the PC once, I don't remember the name of that game, but that one had the Nordschleife in it and you actually started at that parking lot, you drive along the barrier and then off you go. It was fun

Go play the Nurburgring Nordschleife and you'll get the right track...

You're right, sadly they didn't include the tourist version of the Nordschleife. I remember it was there in rFactor (and maybe GTR ?)

Are you sure it was not R Factor ? as I don't remember ever starting on the straight of the ring in GTR EVO only R-Factor.

Nürburgring Nordschleife represents the tourist version. (Though there are some days when you can even drive the combination GP and Nordschleife).

The difference is, as was said before, that you would start at a different place on a tourist day. The starting point is roughly in the middle of Döttinger Höhe (the long straight), you will notice some building and bars behind the fence...

In Tourist day though you can't do the whole lap right? You always had to pull in and get out every lap?

More accurate description for the GT5/GT4 version of the Nordschleife is the "industry testing" version....what the car manufacturer uses on their test day...

Yes, the long Döttinger Höhe straight is blocked off during tourist traffic.
Nordschleife only would usually be used by the RCN series, for instance.

You are right indeed! Though the Nordschleife was in GTR Evo, only in rFactor you had the tourist layout starting at the parking lot.

I was at the 1963 Gran Prix and had seats in the pub/restaurant area on Döttinger Höhe straight The cars gridded directly across from there. The main thing I remember about the races was all the cars screamed off (literally) and you had time to go get another beer before they came back for the end of the 1st lap. Nurburgring in those days was not really a good spectator race... (Oh and there was a 2 lap bicycle race before that, talk about excitement!!!)

The Nordschleife (Northern Loop) is the tourist version and is the only surviving half of the full Nuerburgring. On the main straight (Gesamstrecke?) you can see the slip road and pay area on the right.

Tourist laps are normally timed from the bridge near that point to the gantry at the beginning of the main straight. You can't drive a full lap because of the speed limit in force around the entrance/exit area on the main straight.

Tourist laps are often described as "bridge to gantry". If you watch the Top Gear where Clarkson attempts to get below 10min in his Jaaaaag he times his laps up to that gantry.

The old Südschleife (south loop) was much shorter than the Nordschleife, about 5,5 km. Both could be used together with the old start/finish area, the so called Betonschleife (concrete loop) which added another 2 km to either track. So all in all about 3/4 of the old Ring are still there. Most major events happened on the Nordschleife anyway. After the first big overhaul of the Nordschleife in the early 70s the south loop became more or less meaningless. Would be cool to revive it in the virtual world, though...

Yes, there's a speed limit. Although the bigger obstacle might be the cones and the gate blocking off the straight.
