It would be pretty nice if you needed Fifty posts before you could make a thread, it would prevent what happend with someone named after a Mitsu. from ever happening again. Not that every thread by a newer person has no point, its just that by having 50 posts, they can learn how to use the search button, and etc.

Its not a bad idea if you think about it. :D
 
it's a good idea... though i don't know about 50... seems a bit much, no? I'd rather say 25 or 30, as some people come here only for a few questions and go back...
 
That would cut down on the number of introduction threads, which isn't necessarily a good thing. Perhaps make new threads available after a certain amount of time from being registered - that way people could lurk for a while, then jump in.
 
It's a nice idea, but I don't feel like it's a big enough problem to justify the restriction. If more new members go on rampant thread-making, then yes, it would be perfect, but right now I just don't think it's necessary. :)
 
I agree that it doesn't seem to be that big of a problem, but if it ever does you might want to borrow the method that gamefaqs uses. Instead of preventing new members from creating threads (This is why half the new members probably join, because they have a question, and want it answered.), limit them to a certain number per day for the first week to say... 5. Linking things to the post count doesn't work, because that only encourages 50 - 100 nonsense type posts. (Not that everyone would do that, but there will always be some.) :)
 
I'd say 10-20. But it's tough if you have a unique statement or question, wouldn't it? I'll admit, I've made a fool of myself before (but that was 1995, the Internet and I were young), but hanging back and waiting until you have something important to start threads with is important. Maybe it's also because I've only started 3 or 4 threads.

Besides, how would new forums ever start?

Well, one of the biggest points for using a bulletin board is the historical factor. There are countless times that I've gone searching these forums for GT3 information that someone else has already asked and had answered. You'd want to encourage new members to do the same until they have a fairly decent understanding of the way things work 'around here', and the people that do the most answering. That way when they've been a member long enough they can intelligently start a new thread, and more of the threads would have meaning to the site.

I like using a time situation instead of post counts. Getting away from post count for triggering member status is a good idea, in my mind.

Improved quality, I like it. And I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone ... (:

72 hours would probably be enough of a deterrent! Sounds like a better idea.
