I recently completed a comparison of 100 of what I thought would be the quickest cars in GT5 (used Trial Mountain as my testing ground). Not wanting to test various models separately, I picked the "newest" premium Lancer and Impreza, and was a little underwhelmed by both, though the Impreza was some 2 seconds quicker than the Evo.

So I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the older models (standard models OK) are faster around a track? Based on some actual testing if possible!

The Evo IX and the Subaru Impreza STI 05 (both I believe are premium models) I think are faster cars. I did test them a while back so my memory may be foggy.

I don't know about the Subarus, but I like the Evo 9. I've beaten quite a few Ferraris and Lamborghinis in it.

im not the biggest fan of the evo 9, has the most understeer of them all on and off road. evo 8 (especially super rally car) is the best evo imo... evo x is somewhat more effective to race on road too.

in terms of the impreza, the sti 11 is the quickest road car impreza ive ever driven stock. the 07 sti is perhaps, however, the most well rounded impreza, being up there with the legendary 22b, 04 spec c, and 05 spec c

the type RA impreza is very quick, it laps th nurburgring about the same speed as an M3 coupe.

for me the new impreza is 2 seconds faster around the top gear test track than an M5 and RS6, not bad considering it has 50pp less.

you also have to consider that if you put everything on SS then you are losing a lot of what makes each car unique. the impreza is so good because it has the almost perfect amount of power and suspension set up for SH tires.

Suburu 22b, ive found to be very quick off road. Looking for another to tune for tarmac now.

If you want the fastest car you don't limit your self to Road cars... :)

Road cars only. I should've been way more specific!

So it's looking like the '10 Impreza (it was pretty quick just not as quick as i'd expected) and maybe an Evo VII, VIII or IX...the X really surprised me, was way down my top 100 on times, but I also remember some of the older models being a bit understeery, I guess i'll try a few of them.

Totally get the comments about the tyre selection but I felt the only way to do a fair comparison was to put on the stickiest road tyres I could, same for each car. I can't imagine the Impreza is slower on SS rather than SH tyres but perhaps more skittish, not so well balanced.

IMHO Impreza 05 is by far the best handling Japanese 4WD I have driven in GT5. Only setting needed is differential torque setting balance to be adjusted towards rear axle.
