:( :( Without Sid we would have had many more fatalities in F1. Truly a massive loss not just for F1 but for all of Motorsport.

RIP Sid :(

Tremondously saddening. Brings to head a lot of painful memories along with the rich legacy in the saving of countless lives he accomplished. There can be no one else like him. Truly a hero. Now you can go fishing with Ayrton Professor, rest in peace.

Alex Brundle just tweeted something extremely heart felt and succinct:

A devastating loss.

Senna and he can fish for eternity. Barrichello, Berger, Hakkinen, Wendlinger, Donnelly and countless others owe Sidney Watkins their lives.

Nicely put. RIP Sid :(

RIP Professor Sid Watkins.. All the people he saved, if it weren't for him he'd be seeing them on the other side, as well. Now he and Senna will finally get to fish. :(

I remember when he first met Ayrton he is supposed to have said something along the lines of "I hope I never have to see you..." :(

Goodbye Professor. Saying your contribution to F1 was "significant" would be a massive understatement. :(

R.I.P. my condolences to his family and friends.
Don't have to repeat again what he did, a truly great person in the history of motorsports.

One of the most important figures in motorsport safety. Sad to see him go.

Well this is truly sad. Sid was a great man who accomplished great things. It is always nice to see a driver walk away from a big crash and that is no doubt a part of sid's legacy. Not to mention all the people that are still with us thanks to him.

F1 owes Professor Sid Watkins a huge debt of gratitude for the work he carried out to improve safety.

Rest in Peace.

R.I.P Professor Sid.

Was he at all instrumental in MotoGP as well??

Riders like Rossi and such?
