Should be pointed out that the NSX-R Prototype LM road car is one of PD's fictional 'fantasy cars', so that might be why it just happens to be so good.

Even the F1 GT was nothing like the other purpose-built race cars made road legal.
The R390, GT ONE, 911 GT1, and CLK GTR were nothing but factory sanctioned variations of the Dauer 962.

Ah, the Dauer 962. My favourite car, and possibly the fastest street legal production car in it's road form when it comes to overall speed and cornering.

But it was.
The F1 GT was still based on a road car chassis.

There's a fundamental difference between road car turned race car and race car turned road legal IMO.
And yet it was still a homologation special, which is why I brought it up.

While it is technically a "fictional" car, it is still based in reality.

There was an NSX LM that did compete at LeMan's, however it competed in the GT2 class, which was homologated from the road car, and required no homologation special like the GT1 cars did. Such was the case of Nissan who brought out the R33 based Skyline GT-R LM for GT1. The car would never have complied with GT2 regulations because of its drivetrain and engine layout. So they made the homologation special for GT1 to make it comply with the rules, by removing the AWD system, and making drastic changes in the powertrain. And then using the rules allowances in GT1 to make aerodynaic and suspension improvements to the limit of the rules, such as the wide body kit, and multilink wide track suspension.

So while the road car variant of the NSX LM is a purely fantasy "what if" homologation special, the actual NSX LM racecar is every bit real.

I know that there was an actual NSX LM race car, but that was based on the first gen model.

The NSX-R prototype LM road car is based on the NSX-R prototype LM race car, which in itself is based off of the NSX-R prototype/concept. Sounds confusing, but that's basically what the set up is. Remember, all three of those cars were taken from GT Concept.

TL;DR version - Honda made the NSX-R prototype.
For GT Concept, PD then made a fantasy race car version of the prototype.
Then they made a fake homologation version of the fake race car version of a prototype.

I dont understand the question. Do nobody read the "cars information" before buying or selecting a car? Polyphony gives a lot of information about the history of each car - especially with the R390 GT1 Road Car. So simply reading the info in the game would answer your question.
I'm aware of the histories of the various cars... I was trying to elicit a discussion on "standard cars" and the legitimacy of allowance of cars therein described in a "normal cars only" race... Not cast a Summon Wannabe Troll Spell...
