Ah...

The only race at the Autumn Ring II (full course). The penultimate race in the Hard-Tuned series.

I remember....

I remember when I thought the Hard-Tuned series would be the only part of [size=+1]GT1[/size] which I would never win (leaving aside the license golds which at that time was an absolutely ridiculous notion).

Then I remember how, after I managed to cheat my way to a win in the Hard-Tuned series with something like a GTO'95 MR that I was convinced I would never actually win at Autumn Ring II in that series.

But time has passed. And I've got all my gold license test prizes.

And now...

That Autumn Ring II race is actually the one I look forward to with an outclassed car since it can sometimes scratch out a good placing since power is not overly important at that track. (Mind you, you need to concentrate on keeping your nose clean for the first lap--avoiding bad collisions with the AI which can leave you with 5 or more difficult seconds to make up).

Ha, that's classic. I totally missed the date! It is good advice, Sportwagon. Hard Tuned Challenge. GT1. I'm going to do it. I have to! But not now.
 
Coincidentaly, I was doing the Hard-tuned series a few days ago with my NSX typeSzero as a warm up for the GT World Cup and to get used to the car. Well, I won every race except this one (finished 3rd). It wasnt because the other cars were faster, no I had the fastest car around the track, but I kept making mistakes and crashing/spinning. I finished the race about half a minute off my record (which has to be my Impreza Type R) but only about 6-9 seconds off the winning RX7.

What im saying is, just pull out an Impreza Type R or Cerbera and you should beat them no problem. If you want a challenge, use a RX7 or detune one of the others. Good luck. 👍
 
Oh no no...I left off almost 2 years ago in my Viper, so that is where Parnelli shall return. Only thing is, I hope I can control the phsysics...I've returned to GT1 a handful of times this year and I definitely noticed a GT1 has got different feel to it. Anyone who disagrees should give this a try: GT1 is definitely the most intense, palm-sweating experience, especially with the qualifying and the cars are less stable...more extreme in their handling too.

Which is why to this day GT 1 is still the best game of the series.
 
Some people don't get this: there's nothing like spending an HOUR perfecting your lap time at Route 5 reversed (for instance), only to blow it in a qualifying run. A REAL qualifying run in which it's only you on the track. GT3 qualifying is pansy sissy compared to GT1.

I admit I prefer GT2 and 3 over 1. I am swayed by these games which are prettier, have more cars and more details, but THIS (real-time qualifying during a series) is one area where GT1 has all the others beat! Let's fire up our first games this weekend!

I agree although I like the qualifying in GT3 because the other cars can get in your way but I don't like the fact that you can have as many goes as you want and keep going until you get the pole position.

GT2 perttier??? I like GT2 because of all the extra cars you have access to and GT3 because the cars look so good, but for gameplay I don't think you can beat GT1. I know why they had to mess with the gameplay but I so wish they hadn't!!!!!

GT3=prettier, not GT2!!! I think GT2 has slightly worse graphix than the first game, matter of fact.

i'll second that. i remember there being a big hoo-ha prior to the release of gt2 claiming the graphics are going to be so many times better than gt1.

they turned out to be a step down from the first game, but it didn't take away any of the games appeal.

Well it's a bit of a toss-up. If you look at the streetlights in GT1, for instance, you'll notice the light they cast is polygonal, whereas the ones in GT2 are perfectly circular. But overall, the 2nd game looks slightly worse. There is more pop-up (and pop-down if you look in your rear-view as you race). There's more detail in the background of GT2, the advertizement billboards and banners change from race to race (on the same track) but all this leaves less memory bla bla bla.

So far as the cars go, I think GT1's cars are more consistent. In GT2, some of them look GREAT (Aston Martin DB6) whereas others look awfully cheap and rushed (Aston Vanquish with its 10 coats of turtle wax). In general, the classic cars look acceptable, as tho the programmers were allowed a few days to get them right, whereas a lot of the newer cars (especially many Japanese cars, oddly) look as tho the designers were given deadlines and couldn't finish their work properly.

Oh and the crickets? We occasionally get an infestation here in GT1, 2, and 3. :(

If it is a toss up whether to have greate looking cars or a more detailled background then I would go for the cars

having played both games over the past couple of days i think i was a bit harsh on gt2 on my last post.

the detail on the cars was much improved over the original - i honestly couldnt remember the cars looking that good :crazy:

In GT2 it depends on which car you're talking about. All the classics like the Aston MArtin DB6, Datsun 240Z, early Corvettes, muscle cars, even the Subaru 360 look fantastic, or at least as good as the PS1 could allow. On the other hand, some of the other newer cars look pretty crappy to the point that you can barely identify them in the replays! In this respect, I think GT1 is more balanced.

It seem that a lot of these threads end up with comparisons to GT2 (or GT3) and then they get a bit off-topic.

I just wish I didn't feel like I have to read every single post:crazy:

At least I am limiting myself to GT1 for now.
