OK. So I just unlocked my first race car. It was the BMW M3 GTR that you win from the German races. I thought cool, I'll try it out on my newly unlocked Le Mans.

WTF? It sticks to road like superglue. It is virtually impossible to lose control of it, even braking into a corner at 190mph after slipstreaming. That can't be right. What's the deal here. Surely it shouldn't be that easy, or grip the road that well.

I mean, if this is supposed to be a "real driving simulator" then I think if cars like that were that easy to drive then we'd all be pro race drivers.

I know it's just a game, but that just seems way off the mark to me. I really don't think you should have that much control. Maybe it'll be different with other race cars, but for some reason, I can't imagine them gripping the road any less. Anyone else think this?

I think you are right. The race cars are to easy, theres no challenge driving those cars, but try these, tturn off the tranction controller off. When i race with my friends in two player battle mode, we use to turn off the traction controller and with some cars the stabily controller too. These make the cars harder to drive, and it feels more real. Try it out!!!

meh. not being harsh. they are race cars. what do you expect. the gtr won't be the best either. if it grips too much either find a different car or change the tires.

but yeah they will kill any opposition

Basing this conclusion on one race car doesn't make a strong argument. Especially with the BMW M3 GTR with is very stable by design, even in real life.

Of course you have turned Traction control off, ASM off and pulled the downforce down (Lemans is NOT a max downforce circuit). Also I will assume you have R1s on too, right. You know R5s wouldn't make it a full lap around Lemans.

Go try a Audi R8 with R1s or R2s front and back, no aids and medium downforce levels. I doubt you'll feel the same way.

It is no secret that most race cars in GT4 have too much downforce on them and race tires are very grippy, though ones you can realistically use in a race are ok.

Don't bother with N tires on a race car. But try S tires, they will give you a realistic "race" tire in laptimes.

have you ever driven into a corner after slipstreaming at 190?

maybe the race cars in GT4 are too easy to drive, but the imminent death/severe hurting element is enough to keep me on civilian pavement.

Yeah the first race car I drove in GT4 was the one you do in the Graduation test for the IA license. It had rediculously good brakes, acceleration, and high speed turning. Oh well, they are fun to drive.

I have not yet got GT4 but for the most realistic experience could i put N1 tires on the racing cars? Generaly this seems to be the tires which most say is the most accurate to real life in car terms! Also you say downforce levels or unrealistic, guessing that the downforce levels and numbers alocated to that d/f setting on the race cars in GT3 72, 73 is the middle in the downforce scale, what would make the most accurate? Give me front downforce settings then i would adjust the rear accordingly!

who here has driven a race car in real life? i find myself making posts like this all the time. people criticize cars that they have not driven. they are race cars, not street cars...they serve one purpose. its not like the technology isnt there. an f1 car has so much downforce it can drive upside down and not fall. hell, look at some street version ferrari's stopping distances. four and five point harnesses arent for good looks. a lot of these cars weigh less than a honda civic as well.

See, that's just it. The driving aids ARE turned off. I never use driving aids because they suck, completely.

I don't know what tires were on it. they were the ones it came with as default, but I'll tell you this, the first thing I always do with a new car is go into the settings and turn ALL the driving aids totally off.

Who the hell uses them anyway? They're more of a hinderance than a help, especially in the license tests.

But anyway, I still don't think it should have that much grip, and yes all the aids were turned off.

Default tires on any race car are R3s (Racing Medium). And the BMW M3 race car is probably one of the most forgiving race cars in the game. It practically drives itself. The RX7-LM is like that too. But get into the Woodone Supra and see if you think it is too easy to drive...

The lack of torque is one of the things that BMW has going for it. I find most of the NA racecars are much easier to handle than the turbos.

There will obviously be some sacrifices in 'simulation' in order to make the game playable for the general gamer, who is more concerned with fun than with realism. PD would be shooting themselves in the foot if they made it too realistic - for every GTP member that would love it, thousands of buyers would take it back to the store then go online and whine about how impossible it is. We get enough reviewers moaning about license tests already! However they set that balance between fun and realism, they're never going to please everybody.

Race Cars.. easy to drive ? if that is what you think, then try Peugeot 205 T16 evo 2, when it's tuned to the maximum.

No matter what I do, I do lose control sooner or later, if i drive it over the limits.. which are frustratingly close, because group B cars were never meant to be easy to drive. And believe me, it's not fun to start spinning when doing 200 mph+ at nurburgring :scared:

on the other hand, you have a point. race cars are way too easy to drive, unlike rallycars. oh well..

Atleast Ford RS200 is fun to drive.. on asphalt. An rally courses that little beast doesn't turn. :( :irked:

well, have fun, whether you liked your cars handling or not. I'm trying to tame my Pug.. again. :banghead: 🤬 :irked:

It makes it harder to drive for you? Wow...I can't drive very well if tractrion control is on...anyone else have problems driving with tractrion control on?

Want to run close to real lap times? Tires make the difference

N1s for normal cars (not race cars)
S1s or S2s for race cars (not normal cars)

Anything is easy to do when you're not going through the G-Forces in the corners or under braking, no sensation of speed as you buzz the rumble strips, and have no fear of what is on the other side of the corner.

I feel the same way. I have two F1's in my garage and I won't drive them until I am 100%.

In GT3, they ruined the game for me and some of my friends. After driving them, I thought other cars were too slow to be fun, and I was just like "bleh" for months until I started a brand new memory card and went from scratch. Then I enjoyed the game again somewhat.

I will try the suggestions about S tires for race cars and N tires for street cars though, ought to bring a lot of the tuning factor back into the race cars.

the tires that most cars use a street tire try racing with those pluse a bmw :::all bmws are for traction and performence for a rough hard ride try the old cars the 69 ss the chargerand so on

I have only one question.
Have you ever drove that car in real life?

They're multimillion dollar customized racing machines; what do you expect?

BTW, the skill in piloting a race car comes not only from simply getting it around a track, but getting it around a track faster than all of the other professional racers against whom you're competing.

Imagine that you spent lots of time on that IA-16 LeMans license test and finally golded the test. Now, imagine that you were told that there's someone out there that can do it a full two seconds faster than you. That's the difference between "anybody being a race driver" and a true professional.

GT Freak!
Are you still limited to the tire selections with the Formula GT cars? In GT3 you could not change the compound of the tyres!

You didn't really need to change them in GT3. The ones that were on there lasted about 4 laps, and if you weren't at least 30 seconds ahead in 4 laps...then you didn't need to be driving the F1 car. As for GT4, not sure. I was Bspec-ing the 24hour Nurburgring race and the power went out 18hours into it, so I haven't gotten the car yet.
