Does any one play gt5p anymore?
i havent touched the game in 6 months.
used to be a big fan, got a whole setup going. then lbp, mgs4, sf4, ghwt came along. and gt5p wasnt offering any new updates, and who knows when pdd is going to finally release the full game...

anyways, recently heard about the new game for the 360, race pro, developed by simbin, the guys who created gtr2, race 08, and bmw challenge. looks like the 360 finally has a sim that is better than what gt5p has to offer.

Race Pro” doesn’t false advertise. Its box doesn’t tell a story. It doesn’t mention characters or a soundtrack. There’s nothing about an “open world.” Instead, its authenticity is validated through two dozen manufacturer and three FIA championship logos – WTCC, F3000 and Formula BMW. The game promises audio captured “directly from race cars” and that “Nothing Gets Closer.” Save throwing yourself on an actual race track, the game’s tagline doesn’t lie.

“Race Pro” is the latest game by SimBin, a Swedish-based development studio that specializes in racing simulations. Scores of virtual racing fans recognize its previous PC-only titles as the de facto standard in its market thanks in part to the team’s dedication to realism. SimBin also scores points through its FIA license, which makes the translation to the Xbox 360 in “Race Pro.” The result is an accurate racing simulator, but one in which casual gamers may struggle to find entertaining

Race Pro is a pretty solid sim. It does the whole sim thing very well. But it suffers some major problems. 1. The MS wheel sucks really hard. 2. The only good wheels that work with the 360 are the Fanatec Porsche wheels but they are expensive and in very limited quantity. 3. There are very few street cars, thus taking out a lot of the emotional connection and fun. On the plus side it has great physics, damage, sound, tracks and race car selection. The graphics are ok, nothing great but not bad. Overall I give it a B. It does what it intends to do very well. But if you find GT5p stale then you may not like Race Pro. The game has no sense of accomplishment, just go race. Some people like this, most don't. Again it is pointless to compare it to a Prologue which is not a complete game. How will it compare to GT5? Well once GT5 comes out and for some odd reason I stop playing, I will tell you.

I agree with you that it s hard to compare a demo to a full game.
but I paid this "demo" 40 Us dollars when it got released. I dont know how much is race pro but ferrari challenge goes for 39 bucks new. I think price justifies a comparison between the games.
If it was just a demo and that PD did not want to hear of any kind of comparison, then they should have priced it lower.

Prologue has ten times the content that Live For Speed has for less.

Unfortunately, my PC has issues that essentially destroyed my Driving Force Pro wheel. I actually went through this two years ago, but I forgot about it, primarily because I chalked it up to Simbin's (or the publisher's) Starforce copy protection virus. Many people had pretty bad problems with it. But I guess there's a bad voltage in my USB ports or something that fried my wheel because this time, it didn't come back to life.

So now, in order to play GTR Evo on a PC, I must spend $700 or so to play it safely. I'm not about to spend anything on a 360 game I'd be stuck playing with that crappy - and broken - 360 wheel.

Even Fanatec wheel suffers on Race pro.. its not the wheel, its the feedback that game gives off.. I was watching review.. but it might be fix in a patch.. but.. wont happen..

I Don't think that's strictly true, price-wise they are similar in the UK at least, and LFS has far more variations of tracks but around the same number of venues as GT5P. It has about 25% of the cars that GT5P offers (few of which a real cars also) however the online element far supposes GT5P on pretty much every level, the variety and depth of game play is much greater that GT5P currently has to offer, and lets not forget that in terms of simulation LFS completely surpasses GT5P's realism. That said lfs has many shortfalls, there is no career mode, it is largely reliant on multiplayer and the interface is a little rough round the edges. Not to mention the graphics probably don't even rival GT4 let alone GT5P.

Of course, content wise LFS won't even be close to GT5 when it comes, the physics will almost certainly be better still, ultimately I will play GT5 much more than I will play lfs.

I don't really like comparisons between the two as while the are both sims, they are sims with completely different objectives. LFS focuses on rugged but excellent simulation and is very reliant on its internet support, where as GT5 will focus on large based appeal, which extreme depth and detail, refined to perfection. While the physics maybe more simple, it works well and ultimately, is loads of fun.

Quite how your PC broke your DFP though

wrong driver? calibrated incorrectly?

Im doing the GTR evolution by SimBin at the moment and im super happy with it. I find it better than GT5p in almost all aspects. Ive also done the Eutechnyx FC game and Im beta testing the new SCC. I really dont understand why I didnt try out the PC sims years ago. In my eyes its brilliant. Just imagine to race Lienz, Machwerk and Nordschleife together with your friends. The most impressing fact is the way SimBin has opened their game for the community. There is a wide range of new cars, tracks and mods made by memebers of the different communitys. Its great and the FFB is in my eyes the best out there at the moment.

It sounds like none of you have played race pro. As of right now, it is a horrible game. It can't come close to GT5P. It has so many bugs, that it is almost unplayable.

The dead zone in the middle of the steering, when using the microsoft wheel is so bad, that you are constantly trying to correct your steering because of it. This causes me to almost, always be swerving back and forth. It really ruins the game for me.

The sound isn't set up right. Your tires can hit the apron on the left side, but the sound comes out of your right speaker. It really messes with my head, to the point of making me stop playing.

Online is almost unplayable. games are always crashing. I have got about 5 out of 20 to actually finnish. I hear that their are ways to fix this though through private matches.

The damage is almost non existent. I would rather not have any damage, then the way that race pro uses it. You can slam the walls without almost no damage taken at all. The damage is mostly cosmetic, and sometimes the cosmetic doesn't even register either.

The games physics do a good job, and the graphics, while not really up to current console standards (closer to original xbox), are passable.

The game is an unfinished project. At least I hope that's what it is. It reminds me of when the new socom came out. It was almost unplayable too, but now it is really turning in to the best shooter out there. Hopefully race pro can do the same thing that socom has, and turn their game around.

In it's current status, I would give Race Pro a 4 out of 10.
I really don't know if it's even a 4. The physics are really good though, but you lose them with the horrible force feedback, and the huge steering deadzone.

Well..when it come's to pc. Which should be soon, I'll get it.
And man this was a short comparison thread.
