just got a copy of race pro from atari for a fiver, and it is a fantastic game, well imprested for a old ish game. it plays great with my fanatec ptws and clubsport pedals.
very good game. i have a few friends that still have it. maybe we can have a race one day.
I have been spending more time with Race Pro as of late. For me it is a breath of fresh air. Last night I got a race in at Spa, and then I jumped back into my career and wrapped up the F class Saleen S7 Race at Macau. I missed actually having to get all my braking done before turning the wheel. Not that trail braking isn't possible in Race Pro... But it isn't the lion's share of your braking activity, like a certain game I also play.
It's a shame that this game did not support the clutch and 900 degrees on the Fanatec wheels. I imagine rev-matching would have been a requirement in the Caterhams and the WTCC cars. Either way I have been curious about getting the Race series for my junky home PC... But then again I am thinking about buying a decent lap top, that can run Sim Bin's Race Room w/ no problems and getting Race 07, to get my feet wet in PC simming. Just a thought.
Hey... Perhaps Sim Bin's mantra is "To turn car guys into console racers, and console racers into PC sim racing lovers"? It's kind of catchy.![]()
Mate, wouldn't it be *simply brill* if one could import ALL the race tracks from Race Pro... into FM4??!![]()
I did not enjoy Race Pro on the console at all. Tried to enjoy it but found it quite poor. As you said, I heard it was very good on the PC.All the Race Pro games on the PC are simply brilliant. The console version's OK. Marred by a poor frame rate. Audio's just above average.
I'm wondering if this game, with all aids turned off and on pro mode is really on par with the best pc sims out there? Anyone can weigh in on this?
care to elaborate? I should have chosen my words a bit more carefully when i said "on par with the best sims out there", as the game is already 5 years old and the technology behind the physics is probably a bit dated; but from all i read so far people regard Simbin's efforts very highly. No, not even close.
I received it today; booted it up, selected pro mode, no aids and adjusted the settings a tiny bit.... and had a blast!
Great game really; if this is how pc sims are they are less punishing than i thought?
The grip is very very good, and the way the springs and dampers work in the corners is also great: you can loose it if you drive too fast but every time i spun the car i knew it was my fault.
Formula BMW is great fun; and the AI is descent also on pro mode doing respectable times.
All in all a great racing game just like i like it.
I'm wondering if this game, with all aids turned off and on pro mode is really on par with the best pc sims out there? Anyone can weigh in on this?
Also I wonder how many people still play this game as it's already that old, but one of the best racing games on current consoles.
If you are still playing this game on the 360, please add me= misterdog7
Cheers!
I agree, physics are among the best I ever experienced on console. For a game not much people really recognize; the driving is just beautiful, you feel whatever the car is gonna do at a given moment, and if you screw it up you know it was your own negligence and you went into the corner too hard... Great racing on a 5 year old game here!I've been tempted to pick this up again so many times. On the consoles, it's as good as you can get physics wise. Unfortunately, it's full of glitches and got absolutely no post release support to fix the problems. Online lobbies I remember were especially troublesome. Leaderboards are pretty well glitched. Between all the times that got recorded to the wrong track and the pause glitch (worst glitch I've ever seen make it into a game) they're mostly useless.
I miss the Formula 3000's especially. And some of the tracks. I love me some Porto GP.![]()
Major bugs being mainly glitches no? No bugs that really ruin the experience? (apart from having a bogus leaderboard of course). It wasn't helped by the fact that Atari were so desperate to get the game out before the end of the Financial year, because the company's figures were dire. They were desperate for a AAA title, that they forced SimBin to release the title before it was ready. Atari refused to pay for post release patches, so none were forthcoming.
