race pro

just got a copy of race pro from atari for a fiver, and it is a fantastic game, well imprested for a old ish game. it plays great with my fanatec ptws and clubsport pedals.

If you use a wheel, there is a trick to get better force feed back. What you do is sign in with your control pad, then sign your wheel in as player 2. Then sign out with the control pad and then sign in again with your wheel making it your main profile and you will have better FFB. Anyways add me I go on Race Pro quite often.

Yeah I have Race Pro and it's a great game for console racing. But recently I've started playing it's bigger brother Race 07 for the PC and , obviously, Race 07 is on another level. Race Pro seems like it was meant to get people to play the game they really want you to try.

I haven't played Race Pro in a moment, but I am planning on tossing it in tonight. I miss being able to lug a car w/o breaking traction while feathering the throttle...

All the Race Pro games on the PC are simply brilliant. The console version's OK. Marred by a poor frame rate. Audio's just above average.

^ For that I blame Atari and their impatience with Simbin. It's clear that the game was far from finished on the 360. The frame rate at that graphic level should have been a silky smooth 60 FPS. But in the end it's not even locked at 30 FPS.

And before any one ask's... I always blame the publisher. The developers can do no wrong in my eyes.

;)

Never got the fuss. Used the touring cars with all assists off and on a controller and didn't feel much advanced beyond a Toca game. Race 07 on my laptop feels a little better.

I have been spending more time with Race Pro as of late. For me it is a breath of fresh air. Last night I got a race in at Spa, and then I jumped back into my career and wrapped up the F class Saleen S7 Race at Macau. I missed actually having to get all my braking done before turning the wheel. Not that trail braking isn't possible in Race Pro... But it isn't the lion's share of your braking activity, like a certain game I also play. ;)

It's a shame that this game did not support the clutch and 900 degrees on the Fanatec wheels. I imagine rev-matching would have been a requirement in the Caterhams and the WTCC cars. Either way I have been curious about getting the Race series for my junky home PC... But then again I am thinking about buying a decent lap top, that can run Sim Bin's Race Room w/ no problems and getting Race 07, to get my feet wet in PC simming. Just a thought.

Hey... Perhaps Sim Bin's mantra is "To turn car guys into console racers, and console racers into PC sim racing lovers"? It's kind of catchy.

It really doesn't take much power to run the Race 07 games on a PC.
And you missed an insane holiday sale on Steam. It was pretty much every simbin race game and modules for like next to nothing. If memory serves me correct I think it was like 25 bucks or something.

Mate, wouldn't it be *simply brill* if one could import ALL the race tracks from Race Pro... into FM4??!

What's even more brilliant is all the tracks you can import into Race Pro ;) .... FREE!

As great as Race 07 is I've kinda moved on from those titles also. rFactor 2 is just outstanding and it's still in beta stage. iRacing is cool too but I'm not a fan of their pricing structure. You could spend more money on iRacing than you could on Forza and GT5 combined yet have nowhere near the content of either.

As i recently discovered Shift 2 because of the advise of some good folk here on GTP, and find it a very enjoyable racing game despite some flaws, I am now interested in picking up a copy of Race pro as the simulation aspect kinda attracts me.

Recommended? What are the good points and the negative ones of this game for you honorable gentlemen?
Worth picking up for a tenner if you already have FM4 and Shift 2?

Graphics and career mode could be better but the physics are pretty good which makes it pretty enjoyable if you are playing with a wheel. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a cheap sim to mess around with.

I have it too, on the 360 though, saw it at retail believe it or not, I've had heard about it so seeing it in person surprised me because is a very old and not very popular game. Even F1 CE which is older is far more common.

I was about to finish the career mode but I encountered a bug or something and my save file got deleted just by switching between XBL profiles.

I like the game a lot so I don't mind doing it all over again but I just haven't got the time to do so.

Thanks for the advise guys 👍, order has been placed which will set me back a hefty 12 bucks, but I think it will be worth it. Seeing that i never played a PC sim, it will be interesting to see how far off the physics are from games like GT or FM.

I did not enjoy Race Pro on the console at all. Tried to enjoy it but found it quite poor. As you said, I heard it was very good on the PC.

I received it today; booted it up, selected pro mode, no aids and adjusted the settings a tiny bit.... and had a blast!
Great game really; if this is how pc sims are they are less punishing than i thought?

The grip is very very good, and the way the springs and dampers work in the corners is also great: you can loose it if you drive too fast but every time i spun the car i knew it was my fault.

Formula BMW is great fun; and the AI is descent also on pro mode doing respectable times.
All in all a great racing game just like i like it.

I'm wondering if this game, with all aids turned off and on pro mode is really on par with the best pc sims out there? Anyone can weigh in on this?

Also I wonder how many people still play this game as it's already that old, but one of the best racing games on current consoles.

If you are still playing this game on the 360, please add me= misterdog7
Cheers!

No, not even close.
care to elaborate? I should have chosen my words a bit more carefully when i said "on par with the best sims out there", as the game is already 5 years old and the technology behind the physics is probably a bit dated; but from all i read so far people regard Simbin's efforts very highly.

I wonder if Simbin, along with other PC sim devs are going to give any attention at all to the current gen consoles...

Apart from PCARS of course.

I've been tempted to pick this up again so many times. On the consoles, it's as good as you can get physics wise. Unfortunately, it's full of glitches and got absolutely no post release support to fix the problems. Online lobbies I remember were especially troublesome. Leaderboards are pretty well glitched. Between all the times that got recorded to the wrong track and the pause glitch (worst glitch I've ever seen make it into a game) they're mostly useless.

I miss the Formula 3000's especially. And some of the tracks. I love me some Porto GP.

I agree, physics are among the best I ever experienced on console. For a game not much people really recognize; the driving is just beautiful, you feel whatever the car is gonna do at a given moment, and if you screw it up you know it was your own negligence and you went into the corner too hard... Great racing on a 5 year old game here!

If they had done a little post-release tweaking, I would have been playing it day and night!

I don't mind the bland graphics on the X360 version, nor the less than thrilling engine sounds at times.

No glitches, and a steady 60 frame rate was all I wanted!

PC sim devs never really gave a hoot about porting over their prized titles to consoles. Could be the lack of horsepower on consoles. Could be something else.

The entertainment industry is rife with politics as you know, and the videogame industry's no different!

It wasn't helped by the fact that Atari were so desperate to get the game out before the end of the Financial year, because the company's figures were dire. They were desperate for a AAA title, that they forced SimBin to release the title before it was ready. Atari refused to pay for post release patches, so none were forthcoming.

Major bugs being mainly glitches no? No bugs that really ruin the experience? (apart from having a bogus leaderboard of course).
