I have noticed when online racing using the chase view(rear bumper)....

When other racers are near my car....

My car audio is nearly muted....

It's annoying because then I can't hear the tires or engine.

It seems worse after 2.08 update.

Not sure if 2.09 fixed this.
 
It's not just online or just in chase view, it does that all the time and was caused by 2.08. I have not loaded 2.09 yet so I do not know if it has been fixed.
 
It's ironic because you need to hear the car well especially when you are in traffic.

An example would be a race start when surrounded by other cars I can't hear wheelspin when I need to the most.
 
Yeah it's quite bad. I think it would probably be better/clearer through an HDMI equipped sound system.
 
I'm using HDMI into a high quality surround system,I toggled the game output from 7.1 to 5.1 to auto I believe with no change. (My surround system is 5.1)I didn't expect it to change,but I thought it was easy enough to try. I usually race with the sound effects at 100 and the back ground music at 70 or off. Doesn't seem to make any difference.

My car is nearly muted when other cars are near online.

It happened long before 2.08, I haven't even updated to that yet and It happens, my car is nearly silent around other cars.

Erm, no. Really, do you know anything about audio?
 
This popped up with 2.06, when they changed some of the car sounds and redid the channel separation. It might have been the patch right before that, but I'm pretty sure it was 2.06 that is to blame.
