I'm doing the frigging NASCAR Daytona Race to test settings. Guess what, Kaz has LOCKED ASM on now. I'm glad I won this a long time ago, it's not possible now.

So, I got wrecked and walked away expecting to claim my 12th place cash after I put dinner in the oven. Came back and I was idling on the back straight on lap 9, 20 minutes after the race ended!

Thanks a lot Kaz. Way to frack up the ONE game that has me loyal to the PS3.

Turn off ABS, ASM is disabled automatically no matter what

Kaz and crew "fixed" the bug we found about ABS & ASM. ABS cannot be OFF, lowest setting is 1.

I dont know what your all on about. I cake-walked through the NASCAR events and races with no problems and never touches my ABS settings.

With 1.06 both Indy and Daytona Aspec Nascar races have ASM and ABS locked on, but not the other races.

It is still winnable, but you need to back off on the downforce to lowest setting for Daytona to win with ASM on.

It is obviously just a bug that will get fixed in the next patch.

Yeh, you must be confusing ASM with ABS. You need ABS on 0 to win these races

No you don't, I never knew about this "trick" when I did it, took a fair amount of tries but you dont need ABS = 0 to do it.

Just did the NASCAR championship, and this was freaking me out! Indy was no problem, but Daytona was effing impossible! I had to put downforce in the lowest value possible, stretch the trasmission to 420 km/h and slipstream like crazy! I actually had to NOT take the lead until the very last moment or the whole group would just run past me, possibly throwing me to the sides and destroying my race. Yeah, that happened a lot of times until I managed to win this thing.

So, to sum things up: these NASCAR races are effed up, ASM is grayed out and always on, and the lowest value possible for the ABS is now 1, not OFF.

PS: This "bug" where turning off ABS would also turn off ASM is not a bug at all, but an intended feature. You can actually read that in the ASM description. Dunno if that was added in 1.06, though.

Glad I golded all the NASCAR events way in the beginning then.. The whole event is ridiculously easy with ABS and ASM off.

how does having abs off benefit you in this race? you barely even touch the brakes in these races...

i'm sure we're all talking about asm... cause everytime i used to take corners in these races, the asm would activate and it would kill me...

ABS off was a benefit since it made the ASM unactive even if it was active.

Also, can anyone confirm if we can still put ABS off in the advanced Nascar special events.

ASM & ABS are not the same thing. Tell you what, get in a Cup car, go to the NASCAR event in Extreme Hall, go to Daytona. Enter the race and see if you can turn of the ASM. Now adjust the ABS, go back the the ASM, can't turn it off. Your the 2nd person that thinks I am misspeaking.

UGH!!!!!

Back when I've done the championship I golded every race but came in 11th on Daytona.

So I revisited it today. No need to turn off ABS to win, which is good because you can't turn it off since the patch.

I managed to get gold on the 1st try today. You just need a good car setup. You can comfortably take 1st and then lead the entire race. If they're sneaking up on you just block them.

If you can't be bothered to set up the car yourself, here are some options that should do the trick:

Even if ASM is locked on, it requires ABS to work, so if its on but ABS is off it will do nothing.

I did the NASCAR special events without realising this (ABS was on), and it took a massive ammount if precision just to even get to the line with a look, i came away with bronze after many tries and then gave up, but it is doable. Then i went back to have another go and tried turning off the ABS, i knew it worked it just never occured to me, and i got gold first try.

As for the NASCAR championship, i never knew that was meant to be had, i got spun off on daytona doing that and still managed to win.

I noticed that the assists in the A-spec NASCAR races were quirky even before 1.06. For example, in the championship I tried to turn TCS and ABS back on for the non-oval tracks but the option was disabled. However, when I went back to gold those races individually, the option was enabled. After 1.06, I went to try Daytona individually (as part of my A-spec grind) but the options were disabled again.

As a work-around, try taking your NASCAR into a practice race and setting your assists as desired, then go back into the A-spec race and those assists should still have the same values, even though they cannot be changed now.

I don't see why everyone thinks that turning ASM off is the only way to win. I just golded all the races and the championship with a new car, no oil change and racing soft tires. The only thing i adjusted was transmission for each track. The key to winning is all about pacing yourself and not going completely balls to the wall. I won every race by a decent margin, except for Daytona which is all about drafting strategy.

This thread is confusing :)

first off, are we talking about the Nascar Event in Special Events, or the Nascar championship in A-Spec?

I know that when I did the Nascar Event in Special Events, ASM was locked to "on", but, you could set ABS to 0 and this would also (without showing it in the menu) disable ASM. This would make your car a lot faster in the corners, making it a lot easier to complete the challenges.

In the championship race in A-Spec, I assume you can disable all aids just like you can in any A-Spec race... I don't think ASM is "locked" there. Haven't checked though.

What I *think* the OP is saying is that you can now no longer set ABS to 0 in the Special Event, which means you can't circumvent the ASM, which means the challenge is harder.

Are any of you guys doing the bump drafting that Jeff Gordon taught in his Nascar School?

This championship is not really much of an issue when you have a draft buddy to screw over at the end.

In the special ASM is locked on and the lowest ABS can be set is 1, no longer can you set it to 0

And the same goes with the NASCAR championship in A-Spec at least at Indy and Daytona.

I don't think it'd a bug at all. It seems intentional to try and force the player to be mixed in with the Ai. It also seems the rubberbanding was raised. Once I got in the lead I was sometimes only going 180 through the turns.

To alleviate any "confusion". I am only and explicitly speaking of: GT Life/ASpec/Extreme Hall/NASCAR Series/Individual race - Daytona 10 laps!

The AI's PITT maneuvers have been toned down a bit. But, still occurred a couple of times.

And no, my game isn't "broken".

This pissed me off so much this morning. ASM feels like an over protective mother.

ASM: "Oh Poptart, 200 mph around the corner is too dangerous. Here I'll just reduce your speed to 180 mph."

Me: "GAH! No I was doing fine!"

ASM: "Don't use that tone against me! I'm just watching out for your safety. Also, 180 mph is really fast."

Me: "If I wanted to slow down I would have eased off the throttle! ASM, I don't need you to drive for me! I'm level 29 for goodness sakes!"

ASM: "Oh you make me worry so much."
