Races wont load

Hi there im sure that this thread may be out there but my GT4 was working fine up until a few days ago, then when I tried to load a race the little icon speedo would turn red and the game wouldnt load!! Just wondering if anyone has run into this problem, or have heard of it. Not sure if its the ps2 or the disk. Its an older model ps2 but works fine with my other games, any help would be greatly appreciated.
