Pardon if this is more common than I thought, but....
I'm in AdeUK's low pp shuffle room this morning, and someone hops in with some welcome message about being a GT Academy Winner. I kinda blew it off at the time, but later did a google search for the user name. Sure enough, we were racing against 2011 GT Academy Winner Jann Mardenborough. Wish I would've searched earlier, because I would have loved to watch his race and/or follow him around the track... or at least try follow.

Wow, that must've been a pretty cool. Where did you finish, were you annihilated or did you manage to hold your own?

You are very lucky! Though there is a super-big chance that you'll finish lower than 1st... :sly:

Treat that as a chance to learn ;)

The op didn't get to race or drive with him. All he saw was the user name pop up, not that very impressive if you ask me  He didn't even know who he was until LATER he looked up the name.

I did race with him... But didn't put it together until later. He won a race at 380pp with an old BMW. He didn't win every race because in shuffle some cars simply can't win.
My OP was more meant as a d'oh moment than something impressive.

He is actually a user on here under the name TechnikRS4.

I race a fair bit with some of last years GT acedemy drivers that made it to the 3rd last round, and one that had to back out of the top 32 because of school.. It's always fun to get some beasts on the track with you!

I raced him too, he's decent but not a beast.
Just goes to show that you don't have to be crazy fast in order to win GTA. 👍

If he wasn't crazy fast he wouldn't have made it to the GT Academy Finals.

Good one.

Now, stop brown nosing and face reality - there were 60 people who did faster than him, from the countries who actually took part not to mention the rest of the world.
With that beeing said nothing stopped him from 24/7ing GTA in order to break into Top 20 near the end of the GTA.
He deserved to win, because of his real life related skills, not GT5 ones.

Someone's a tad jealous aren't they? Cool your ego.

Why should I be jealous?
If my country was supported and I competed and didn't win then yes, then I'd be jealous.

It's just a shame I can't compete but oh well.

LOL.

Calm down mate, he wouldn't have got that far if he wasn't fast.

I judged his pace from what I've seen in online races.
I raced plenty of fast people and I know to tell fast from decent.

He's racing a real car now, I don't care how fast anyone is in GT5, Jann showed pace where it actually counts, in a real car, etc and look what he's doing now.

Good, and look now at how much I care about real racing.
Oh yes, I don't.

I watch 24h of Le Mans and 24h of Nurburgring and some WRC and that's it, don't really care about anything else.

You're digging yourself deeper and deeper ;)

And where does it say that I care?
People like Timppaq, mad94d, DHolland, crazytortise, many more aren't allowed to enter GTA, yet people judge it as if it clearly shows GT5 skill when infact it doesn't.
Yes you gotta be quick on GT5 but that's all really, there are at least 10000 quick players on GT5 and about 500 really fast guys.
Just because someone won GTA doesn't mean he's amongst the fastest drivers in the world, that's my point agree or not I don't care. I'm talking from my personal experience.

I would much rather be fast enough to be a real race car driver than just fast in GT5. That's just me though.

Well let's see, Jann was fast enough to make the top 32. He then moved on to the semi finals, coped with the pressure and showed off his GT5 skills enough to make the top 16 and move onto Silverstone in the finals. He then coped with the immense amount of pressure there and showed off his driving and athletic abilities, enough to win GT Academy. I don't care about how fast someone is in GT5, but Jann was able to show strength where it counted and look at him now. I hope you can atleast appreciate that to some degree.

Time trial "aliens" are not always in a class of their own in a pack of cars.
I have raced several D1 gold guys in identical cars on various tracks and was not at all scared by their tempo.
I am a fast driver, but not D1 gold-fast.
Time trials does not equal racing.
That said, a D1 gold driver will usually be at the poiny end of a pack.

There were 60 people that were faster.. How many Million People have this game?
"Man, 0.02 Percent of people are faster then you? You are SO slow"

This is the problem with the world today: many will just never give credit where its due. Michael Schumacher was lucky - he had a good car. Mike Tyson was lucky - there were no big Russian boxers back in the day. And Red Bull F1 Racing is only winning because the others have gone off the boil. And now this ...someone has won GT Academy but "there are 60 others faster".

Geez Fobia ...does it really have to be this way? What does a guy have to do? Walk on water?!?

This time.

Timppaq made it to the Nordic final in the 2010 GT Academy and came 4th in the final race (Ocer_FI was the Nordic GT Academy finalist - also a Finn) and DHolland was the Australian GT Academy finalist in 2010.

in fairness, it's very hard to win in ADEuk's shuffle room.
the top drivers are very quick, even in the nasty, rusty sheds.

If Micheal Schumacher had a PS3 and entered he wouldn't win em all.

I'd like to give that a shot.
