Racing Frame thing I made

I saw those racing frame things for video game steering wheels that usually go for $300 and up. I decided instead of buying one, why not just make one out of lumber? So I did just that.

I got a seat from a 1st generation RX-7 for free (my uncle sort of has a personal mini-junkyard). And the lumber and screws were just laying around the house. So, my dad and I built this in one afternoon, and it cost me $0.00. (Lucky you, my room is usually messier...)

It's a lot sturdier and much more comfortable than a fold-out chair and a coffee table. The chair still has the brackets, so it can be adjusted for players of different heights. I was planning on putting velcro on the pedals so they could be mounted, but I soon found out that velcro doesn't stick to wood very well. That's ok though, they're fine without it, even at that 45 degree angle. Yeah, I think I may get a seat cover for it sometime, that seat is fugly.

Thats pretty cool, all you need now is some black carpet or some stain and you'll have one sharp looking race frame. I plan on making my own as well when I get my DFP next week for Christmas (eagerly waiting in anticipation).

I was thinking of making one up out of some scrap steel I have in the backyard but have nowhere to put it.. :(
 
Very nice dude! It even kinda matches with your furniture, but I agree with lionel that it should be stained and carpeted. I can't wait for my bro to eventually move out, then I'll have all the space I need to make my own cockpit. I can dream.

Is that a new slim PS 2 there?

Heheh, yeah word for word. Except I substituted "FB" with "1st generation RX-7."

If you could I would really appreciate some specs, to maybe get a decent baseline of what I'll need.

Ok, here are the measurements. The brackets on my seat are different from one another and I had to make different sized wood blocks for them, that's why the measurements are different there. But everything else is pretty accurate. I used 1x4s on the heel-rest and the beams for the steering wheel pad, I used 2x4s on everything else.

Looks great!! Very ergonomic too.
The next person that makes these can go a step further and make the foot pedals adjustable so you could go at any angle for comfort. Nothing better than making something that cool for free. :) 👍

Why, though, are there different measurements on either side of the top-down view?
