Is there anyone in here that races professionally and has experience with racing resume's?

I'm starting to put mine together now and am not sure where to start. I think I have decided to use a resume writing service as my skills in this sort of thing are seriously lacking. This writing service can be found here. All I really have to go on is my experience in track days and autocross events (not SCCA or NASA) back in my home town, and my GT Academy experience.

So far for references I think I have some good ones that have agreed to help:

  • Keith Tanner - Organizer of my hometown events, Technician for Flyin' Miata and Creator/Driver of the Targa Miata.
  • Mike Disser - Assistant Promotions Manager for Nissan North America, person in charge of GT Academy North America marketing operations.
  • Tommy Kendall - Yes, THAT Tommy Kendall of Trans-Am fame and one of the judges for the GT Academy competition. 👍

Now, is there anything that I should include that I'm not thinking of? Does attending racing events have any bearing on my experience? Someone I work with mentioned creating a website. Yes?

A website is probably good, it's a bit more of an interactive way of presenting your skills than a piece of paper. If you have any videos of yourself doing racing or autocross, then those would definitely add a bit of spice.

True. I only have a few videos though. The best ones are with my Miata, but from an old camera so the quality isn't that great.

Knowing Tommy alone should get you places, I'm sure he has a few "connections" Best of luck Jason!

First off I don't race professionally or have any motorsports connections.

I do agree with creating a website. If you do make a website, make sure it's pumping out content and isn't static. You want it to be alive and to bring attention to yourself.

Perhaps invest in a better camera and get better videos. I imagine that some samples of your driving ability would help, also if your videos become popular for whatever reason they might bring a lot of attention to you. Post the videos where ever you can.

A bit hard to get videos now as my only car is a Chevy Cobalt sedan with hubcaps. Could invest in a Go-Pro camera for indoor karting, but that's about all I would get.

If you're willing to pay, there are some companies that rent you laps in high powered sports and super cars. If they allow you to record, you could rent a car every once and a while and throw it around the track, and then put the videos online. Perhaps you could also review the cars/experience.

Good idea! There's something like that in Vegas, not too far from me. I'm also going to find out how I can get into a Spec Miata rental. Will have to hit the local SCCA forums.

👍
