Hi good day. I am new to this site and looking for racing leagues to join. I notice this site has two separate forums for non-spot online racing - Racing Series and Clubs & Leagues. What is the difference between both?

I'm asking because I would rather have only one forum to browse leagues that might interest me. There isn't a FAQ or sticky that I could find in either forum, so could someone please explain to me the differences between a Series and a Club/League? Or are they just names and people randomly decide which of the two forums to post in when they create a league?

Hi. Well as I've been led to understand, the racing series might as well be Club/Leagues, since the people who take part in them likely know each other well anyway. It is quite cliquey. But a Series generally means a series of races, like a championship season of sorts, while a Club/League is just a bunch of people who race together.

If you're interested in actually creating a series, or a club, there's a 99% chance it won't even get off the ground without rounding up friends and acquaintances to join it first. People are flakey and lazy, after all. As for joining something, the Racing Series forum features the signups for specific series, and that could be the best place to start.

I'm a prominent member of two Leagues in these forums and
I can tell you what I believe to be the difference between series and clubs/leagues

Tyrrell does make a good point in saying they may as well
be the same thing but here's the biggest difference.

In a series, there's a scheduled set of events.
Often you're required to qualify to participate, and other times you're not.
There are stringent rules and regulations for the events themselves.

In clubs & leagues, as Tyrrell said, it's mostly people that race together because they share a common interest.
Whether it's classic cars, mountain pass or highway racing, or just cruising, or whatever.

Now, the difference between a club and a league is that a CLUB is simply that,
a group of people sharing a common interest that drive together,
share thoughts and opinions on their shared interests.
In a LEAGUE the same premise lies in a group of people sharing a common interest but
there may also be events held for prizes,
bragging rights, or whatever.

Myself, I'm a member of two leagues (one which I run myself) where the
common interest is based around Japanese Anime street racing shows and
recreating our own experiences in the spirit of the show.
Namely Wangan Midnight (with my Wangan Masters Tournament) and
Initial D (with Legend of the Streets Touge Racing League).

We are both clubs that cater to those aficionados of street racing by
regularly hosting lobbies with those themes in mind as well as a Ladder/Leaderboard
for official battles which at the end of each season pits the highest ranking drivers
against each other in a championship for ultimate bragging rights.

How do we differentiate from series?
We don't follow a set schedule for races or keep scores like
Formula 1 or NASCAR would, we have our own formulas.

I hope this helped clear things up for you a bit, and as always, you're welcome to check out the aforementioned leagues. You'll find the links to them in my signature.

Thank you both for answering. I'm new to scheduled online racing so I'm looking to join rather than start something. My understanding now is:

Clubs - race "for fun" or light competition, usually between friends or people with similar interests

Leagues - racing events/seasons with some fixed rules but also some flexibility for both the racers and league coordinators

Series - for the dedicated racers with strict schedules, rules, standings, and stewards.

If I'm a bit off please correct me. Either way, I am excited to look through all upcoming leagues and series and find one or more that I know I'll enjoy.

1 thing I agree with tyrrell with is don't be a new member and try to start a series of your own (also know as op when you hear it). A lot of people try there own series before they even hit 50 post and no one shows up, it's pretty sad. The best thing for you to do is get your rep up by joining spot races, or signing up to 1 series at a time and racing cleanly and finishing all your races. Try about 2 or 3 different series over time so that way you meet a lot of the heavy popular hitters on the forums. Then you can start your own series and it might take off still. Another thing too is if you can't built a reasonable good looking op then it will be harder to get people to join. The competiton on the gtp is very tough, so I would recommend joining 1 or maybe 2 series at a time because if you don't turn at-least 50 practice laps you shouldn't even get on track and if your not naturally fast then it sometimes takes 100 practice laps to be quick. I made this mistake joining 4 series at once and being a back-marker for all 4 series. 👍
