Dont bother
Hello All,

I would like to get some shuffle racing done but the cars are just crap. I want to see if anyone would like to use stock cars in their garage. I have found that turning the tuning to restricted in the room will allow only stock cars out. The cars are allowed if there have been NO parts purchased (if any parts have been purchased, even removable parts, your cars will not be allowed entry. strange i know). The GT Auto section is ok though. Cars can be painted, have rims, engine rebuild, chassis rebuild, and oil change ARE allowed. I think it would be fun. My 350Z is great at this and i plan on sifting through the used lot to purchase 450pp - 550pp cars for this type of race. Its just like shuffle racing only you can pick your own cars! Please respond to this thread or message me on PSN (screenname: r4a2g0) if you would like to race. I am normally on noon to 3pm EST and 1am to 3am EST if you wanna join me.

Thanks for your consideration,
Rusty.

Yes it's a good idea because you don't need to tune and finetune them (which is cool but time consuming). I hope you'll find enough people.

It's too bad you can't just take off the purchased parts to qualify. I have lots of cars the game has forced me to buy upgrades for just because they can't compete in any of the badly designed races they are eligible for.

But then again, unequipping any adjustable parts reveals yet another of the game's stupid and ignorant flaws by resetting everything to default. Settings sheets are a workaround for this I think, if you happen to make use of them, not that that makes it ok(especially since they don't tell you).

I've wanted to do stock racing for a while but never came across a decent room for it. I guess it'll show big performance gaps between cars but I just like driving unmodded cars.

I'd love to join in if you did this, I have loads of stock cars but never really use them because everyone tunes the 🤬 out of everything.

Depends what tires your thinking of useing. having stock cars on stock tires sounds like a good idea but everywhere i go it seems people are using RS.

You should be able to get into no tuning rooms by removing the purchased parts so long as all the parts are removable. If you've done permanent stuff like engine upgrades, weight reductions of any kind or chassis reinforcement, you're outta luck. But if you've just purchased things that are removable and remove them, you should be ok.

I don't see why this would be a good idea. How many cars are level with each other stock? Even at the same PP cars aren't level.

I think what you want, and what several others of us want on top of a more finely tuned PP system, is the ability to limit the use of ballast and engine limiting. Perhaps even the ability to limit classes of parts. For example, you can add intake/exhaust and go down to 97% engine limiting, but you have to run the stock transmission and suspension. Trying to make the cars more balanced, while keeping the stock feel of them.

Not true I point to what Johnnypenso says as the actual case:

I made a description of what it means to qualify for tuning: prohibited here:

Yep, as happy as I am with the tuning: prohibited restriction... It's still not any cure-all for open garage racing.

Though some modicum of fairness should be able to be had if the tuning:prohibited is used in conjunction with Drivetrain restriction & car class type restriction both.

That said, I don't see any way of weeding out the duds or the ringers in any drivetrain & car class. And this really only seems to work in a thought-out organized racing scheme, where car models are specifically chosen, for being competitive with each other in stock condition. (Or of course in 1-make races.)

I've set up a couple of lobbies like this with tuning restricted and sports hard tires at 450 PP. the racing was fun and better than shuffle.

It's better when you do this in a lounge with friends. Nobody asks you to take off the tuning restriction, upgrade tires or bump up the PP.

That's probably true of all types of racing. :ouch:
Seems like there's someone in every pub lobby pestering for:
"Raise the PP"
"Take off the tire restriction"
"Put Aids on"
etc. etc. etc.

I imagine the average pub lobby player doesn't have any cars that would make into a tuning: prohibited restriction. :indiff:

That's one reason I didn't play online because people are using racing soft everywhere

This.

Your my kinda guy, I have a stock version of every premium. And by every I mean every, I've got a stock 350z, Micra, Focus, Corvette, Viper (which really confuses people online) etc

i noticed that too. you could limit the tires to sports hard.

I tried and i couldn't get it on the track.

thats why i am coming here to see if anyone is wanting to race these races. if were all on the same page it will run smoothly.

There are a few unmodified organized races linked in my signature block below.

If you're looking to organize multi-model racing.
I would suggest the following.
Have a theme, like a certain class of cars & maybe years allowed.

Use the car type restriction.
THere's a good sheet someone put together here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=243247

Use the drivetrain restriction.

Use the tuning: Prohibited restriction

And use a PP (or hp/kg) restriction.

But remember, oddly, the tuning:prohibited restriction disallows the use & adjustment of ballast, but it does allow using the power restriction.
:boggled:

But if you limit the class of cars or set limits of car models somehow, that should help with that problem.

Wow, that renders this restriction largely useless. If anything it should be the other way around.

It would be nice if you could just bring up a dummy tuning menu and then pick what you want to set to Stock, Limited(to whatever stage), Allowed At Default Setting, or completely Unrestricted. Of course, that would likely be complicated to implement/use and we'd only immediately start asking to apply different restrictions to different cars. But if they did do all that it could also do a lot to help offline racing as well.

I'd be up for some racing. The only problem is I work long hours and my shifts are not set so may have a problem making every time out.

all good bro. i work alot too. im only on early afternoon or early morning... 1amish

It's easy to miss something. I often go through it twice before I realize what I missed.

i saw what it was. i had weight in my ballast, thats why i couldnt get it in. ha.

Okay, getting off topic a little, but I've recently re-organized my garage.

Most of my racing is done with the 450 room. Street cars, on sports tires, at 450 PP. I have tried to tune the suspension on a car, but after many hours, it might've been slightly faster, but it just didn't feel like I wanted the car to feel. So, I would look through the tuning forum. I found one tune that I loved. It was tight and balanced and the car would behave like I wanted a car to behave.

I ran that same car with the stock suspension.

I was faster.

So, that's what I'm doing now. I've built several cars where my rules are simple, no more than weight reduction 1, if at all. Intake/Exhaust parts, no extra forced air, and try to avoid engine tuning. No extra ballast and very little engine limiting. If the car rolls like a boat, then I might put on the fixed sports or height adjustable suspension, and if the gear box is off, I might swap it out.

And there are several cars that I enjoy driving like this. But I still have the same problem. Some are just in a different league. The RX-8 for example, on stock suspension at 450 is so much faster than any other FF or FR that I've tested. That's nice and all, but... I don't really like the RX-8 that much.

Racing stock or near stock as I've done here, still makes it easy for good cars to stand out. It turns it all into a near one-make race.

Maybe that isn't bad.

 👍
Last year we had Spitfires on Cape Ring North, and I found that though my fully adjustable suspension set-up was the way to go on all other tracks. I had 2 good set-ups for various tracks... On Cape, I wound up trying the Fixed Sports Kit... and that was aces on Cape for me... much much better than any tune I could come up with in the suspension.

I find that on some cars. I'm better off with the stock suspension, the fixed sports kit, or maybe the height adjustable sports kit.

I always wondered if maybe it had something to do with my being not that great with suspension tuning... But I don't know.

I say whatever works best!!! 👍

I like 1-make races. But yeah, multi-make races it probably is a lot harder to do in stock unmodified.
Then you have to do a PP restriction too, PLUS, someone needs to do some testing. (And I think a lot of people just don't want to do it.)

We had this race some weeks ago:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=242336
Those 3 cars seemed to be very compatible. All 3 of us were neck & neck the whole race, the Silvia driver pulled out for a gap halfway through... BUT he drove a mistake-less race, which was not the case for those of us in the Bluebird & Spitfire.

In the Cat & Mouse League:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=244114
Yesterday we tried unmodified 4wds @ 406pp on liege gravel, toscana, and alaska snow.
Audi quattro '82
Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 '85
Volkswagen New Beetle RSi '00
Alfa Romeo Brera Sky Window 3.2 JTS Q4 '06

The brera is a pig IMHO. But the guy who beat me using the Brera, with me in the Beetle... in a 1-make race on a rally track, he usually doesn't beat me with ease. But with him in the Brera, no matter what car I used, he seemed to do well. So one wonders if he's just better with the Brera than I...

I'm currently testing in the VCRC, to see if the Cosmo 67, Bellet, & Celica 70 could be competitive together. I think they could be.

But in all of these cases, that whether the cars are compatible to be competitive with each other always has a lot to do with the cars, the drivers, and the tracks you're racing on.
Point being, I think that's also true with tuning allowed, just to a somewhat lesser degree.

The argument I have in favour of no-tuning restriction comes down to this:
I can't explain why, but it does seem to make for closer racing at times.
My theory is that no-tuning, makes it more of a RACE, than a driving contest... and it rules out a tuning contest. 👍

That said, I like tuning and no-tuning.
I just tend to host a lot of no-tuning races, because there's less prep involved, which in my niche racing interest, it's hard to drum up enough people to participate in a lot of races where they have to spend a lot of time prepping.

And when all is said & done, I do agree, even when there's tuning allowed... there is such a thing as over-tuning. I can easily over-tune my car right into being crap. :yuck:
