I've just recently started to listen to them. On Battle of Los Angeles there's a bunch of solos which sounds like someones scratching on turntables, but my friend has told me every single sound is from the guitar, is he right? It sounds way to perfect to be from a guitar

Tom Morello is a guitarist genius. On the Fistful Of Steel song in the first RATM album, at the near-end of the song, I hear his guitar tweaking up like turntables scratching. This man really has serious potential playing the guitar. But now that he is on Audioslave, he doesn't seem to be like the genius that he was on RATM :(

I think he still kicks ass with Audioslave; he uses a lot of the same techniques as on albums like Battle of LA. Show me how to live sounds distinctly Rage if you ask me. I love Audioslave; the CD has a lot of great songs on it. Cochise is pretty kick ass, as is Gasoline, and many others. Good CD in general.

EDIT: Oh, and the first Rage CD is my favorite of theirs. There's not a bad song on it, it just rocks.

Also, apparently Tom is a trekkie.

He also plays straight, with no synths. It's all him, a few effects boxes, and an amp.

I would pay $50 for a rip of Rage's first album with the vocal tracks removed. Anybody on it?

I agree, Zach is pretty cool. Real lyrics, and an interesting voice.

Tom went to Harvard and majored in Political Science; graduated with honors I beleive.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Zach De La Rocha isn't that bad. I quite like his voice. It's unique.
Meh. The only way I can enjoy the album is to ignore the vocals and think of them as just another instrument. I just can't stomach a lot of strident, self-righteous, leftist, whining, semi-rap. And what's with the occasional caveman howls he throws in? Are those supposed to make him sound angrier?

The offer stands: $50 to erase Zach from Rage's first album.

I can make an attempt at making you an instrumental rip (probably not legal though).

I don't get how you don't like his singing in the music. His voice is a part of the sound that Rage is all about. Without the voice well...idunno. Yea he's a bit leftist but his voice is a part of the sound

Well, like I said, I enjoy the album if I turn off my interpretation, and just listen to the vocals as if they were an instrument. Then, you're right, it's part of the sound.

You've just started listening to them?? *tsk tsk tsk* I've tried listening to Audioslave, but ehh...

I'm guessing he gets it by sliding the pick up and down above the pickups on the higher 3 strings, it sounds kind of like it..
