Hi. I have been messing about with a few different cars to use for rallying (on dirt.) It would be good if other people could give their opinions on the cars I have been testing, and maybe even test them against each other. I have tuned all cars pretty close to the max (but you don't have to of course.) The cars I have been using, and generally what I think of them are below:

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII MR GSR - Good overall. Steering is a bit heavy but sticks to the corners fairly well.

Nissan Skyline GT-R M-spec Nur (R34) - Very powerful maxed out. Steering fairly responsive (surprisingly) but grip levels are lower than the Evo so takes a while to get used to (maybe as its TOO powerful), but not too long. Satisfying when conqured.

Suburu Impreza Rally Car ('03) - Pretty good all rounder. Steering is good.

Toyota RSC Rally Raid car - Perfect amount of power. A bit iffy around some corners though (forced me to weight down the back end) but still good.

My favourite is suprisingly the Skyline because as slidy as it is, its just damn good when you account for it in the corners and get it right.

Any opinions would be great (from your knowledge or through testing them), or even some recommendations for better cars to stick some dirt tyres on! Cheers

I have been using mostly the Toyota RSC Rally Raid car and, if that doesn't work for some reason, the Ford RS200 Rally car. IMO the Ford is the best handling rally car I've tried.

I found that the Peugeot 206 rallycar is the best overall rallycar for my drivingstyle. It turns really well, and the griplevel is surprisingly good. I bought it to race in the hard rallylevels, and I had very little trouble winning anything I entered (dirt & snow), and if you use it, don´t tune it! It spins way to much with any more power!

Stuck with the 03 WRC Scooby even though it averages about 5 a-spec points per race... will redo them later on for more points.

i think that the ford escort rally car is good because you can max it to 560 hp and it has good handling

The 206 Rally in my opinion is the best. If you want to get some high A-Spec points, use the road version of the RS200 in the hard levels, you'll get around 174 points per race, and with some skill, ya can win. The one I enjoyed the most so far though would have to be the Lancia Stratos, because its a small RWD car with high horsepower, it can be pretty tricky to learn, but once you do, its pretty fun to drive, and watch in replays.

The Impreza Rally Prototype('01 i think) worked very well with the lowest turbo upgrade to about 400hp. It can be won from the 1st Tuskuba(?) Wet Race.

I won the rally races except for Grand Canyon ((hard), haven't raced it yet) with a fully tuned Toyota RSC; the first true rally car you receive and the one you keep winning to sell for quick money. I made no changes to ride height or gear ratios. I guess in a way I cheat, but I feel in a way, PD does too. I will run the car full throttle and get the back end around fast for the corners. You can hit the rear end of the car as hard as much as you like without receiving a dreaded :05 penalty. Moreover, you can `ride the walls' in the snow/ice tracks without fear of a penalty. I feel it's cheating a bit but quite honestly I gave up on trying to play properly. If it were a time trial without fear of the AI car hitting you and you receiving the penalty, I would work harder at winning without cheating. I'm a big fan of rally and am disappointed at PD's interpretation of the sport. Having said that, I love GT4 in *every other aspect* and would never completely pooh-pooh the developers for their rally incarnation.

Bottom line:
First won Toyota RSC and fully mod it.
Drive fast, crash the rear end often.
Repeat

Screwtape

I like running the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 2 (I think, whichever has more horsepower) completely stock. It can be a handful, but once you get used to it, its pretty much unbeatable.

I found the 205 Evo 2 to be more pleasant with a little tuning. Specifically I recommend dialing more front power in the center diff and changing the front diff to have higher on- and off-throttle engagement. It does make the car feel a little less unique, I suppose, but I'll take driveable over unique when actually using the car to set a fast time. Given that its power to weight ratio is superb I think it's among the best rally cars.

I use one of the versions of the Mitsibushi 3000-GT, just a Turbo Stage 1, 2 weight reductions and a wing I think.

It's a bit bulky to burn around the rally tracks to begin with, but it's badass when you get used to it.

delta s4 does the business for me on gravel, pug 205 t16 EVO2 is better on snow and tarmac both are my fav rally cars:tup:

I have to say, i love the dodge ram pickup, throw a stage 2 on it and drift the rallys to heaven! My fave by far!

the only problem I've got with this pick up is slowing down to 2 mph to get round corners.

I've enjoyed using the evolution super rally car. Not bad, gets ahead of the compition very easily. Also, I have tried the Escudo. Much bett than in gt3. Now it actually steers, brakes and turns. Not nearly ideal, but noticably improved.

I personally enjoy using the Peugot 206 & the Subaru Imprezza Rally car(s) ..01' & 03' models I think???

While the 206 is a lot lighter & a bit harder to control, it's accelaration over the Subby's is nice! The Subby's rule on courses like Swiss Alps & Tihaiti (Spelling?) though IMHO!....
