Hi All,

First off, I'm at 87.6%. I have all licenses but super (ha, both in GT3 and GT4) and am slowly finishing all of the special condition hall races. All other halls are complete (with the one notable exception of Formula GT in Extreme Hall), all manufacturers (with the one notable exception of Opel) are complete. I still have to complete driving missions 11+, so there's my missing 12.3%.

I have determined empirically that a Peugeot 206 Rally Car with the following mods can win all easy and normal rally (snow and dirt) races:

Muffler RC
Brake Controller
Transmission FC
Differential FL
Suspension RC

This yields 305 horses. Always the tranny trick to close ratio the gears. This equates to 3 A-spec point races in easy and 6 or 7 in normal.

Unfortunately this configuration loses in hard every time, and throwing a stage 4 turbine in only tends to make the car more squirrely. I have tried several other cars, but have not been able to crack any of the hard special condition hall races. What did all of you in the 100% club use? Details please...

Thx, Bob

the only reason why the rally seems harder in GT4 than in GT3 is becos of the silly 5 second penalty you receive when the other car hits you to get ahead! PD really messed up on this one!

I'm not in the 100% club just yet (just 4.6 to go!), but I have finished the special conditions hall. Personally, I like the Peugeot 205 Turbo Rally Car Evolution 2 (I think that's what it's called). Just look for a car with about 440-450 HP in your garage and you'll find it.

Edit: Hold up a sec...you might win it in one of the hard races :dunce:

Yes, indeed, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Rally Car Evolution 2 is won at George Paris Hard. Of course, you can just take an LMP to win that one.

only 91.x % but used a subaru rally car prototype with a turbo upgrade.
2 more hard dirt races to go

I'm at a mere 47%, and I smoked all the rally races with the Evolution Super Rally car. You have to save up some money, but the car is awesome.

I used an RS200 rally car* with the turbo upgrade for all the dirt and snow stages. A decent driver could win pretty easily with it, but I just bounced off walls.
I definatly found GT4 rallys much harder then GT3. In GT3 I did all the rallys with a TME Lancer. It had about 70hp less then the RS200, and I won all the GT3 rallys with proper driving. Even with wall riding and the overpowered RS200, I struggled to win some of the special conditon events (especially the snow stages and the Grand Canyon).
I think the reason GT4 rallys are so hard is the apperent total lack of lateral grip the cars seem to display. The last game I played with vehicles that handled like that was Asteroids.
I can't say for sure if it's realistic, but based on all the rally footage I've seen I think it isn't even close.

*I think you win it in one of the easy races.

You're partially correct. The RS200 road car is won at Grand Canyon Easy. The RS200 Rally Car is won at Capri Hard.

I used the evoultion super evo or what it´s called or you can just pick a rally car and tune it and drive the last race so you win the Pikes Peak

that doesnt make it harder... unless you are a wall rider.
the tracks are heaps narrower which gives you less sliding room. that could make it harder :)

How are you only missing the Formula GT championship from the extreme hall when you havent got the S license yet? im pretty sure theres more then just the fromula championship that has the S license in extreme hall

you can b-spec the races without the s-lisence.

i still havnt been able to get my s-lisence, (ofcourse, because of a rally test, the grand canyon one i think) but i've done a fair bit of the extreme hall anyway.

Ah thats right, i forgot

RS200[R] is from Capri hard? I have no idea what I used to win that. Could have been anything, I guess.

It does make it harder, not because of the walls, but because of the AI driver. (which is what he said)

Well, I'm only a member of the 43% club, but I blew through the Hard dirt and snow Special Conditions races with ease with the 1,250,000-credit Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Super Rally Car '03. I added the Stage 3 turbo (but only used it twice), dirt and snow tires, and the "Increase Rigidity" option. I turned off ASM, set the TCS to 10, set the final drive at 5.500, and slid the Autoset to 1. Brake balance was 2/4.

The Super Evo is definitely the best rally car. Even the two best Imprezas aren't quite a match for it.

I also shamelessly used wall-riding, employing the Scandinavian Flick and sometimes a tiny brake tap to get the car crossed up as it entered a turn so it would tag the wall with its rear bumper first, which negates the 5-second penalty. Using this car and the cheesiest wall-riding possible, you can take about three-quarters of Chamonix at full throttle without ever lifting off the gas once. I won Chamonix Hard by 32 seconds.

On the asphalt events I used the Z06 Corvette I won the Supercar Festival with, and put R5 supersofts on it. On Tsukuba Wet Hard I used an '03 Pesky, with max TCS, R5 tires, and stock power.

The only challenge for the Super Evo was Grand Canyon Hard Reverse, but I still won it in only four tries.

After you've collected all your golds and prize cars, clean up your act and come back to the events with a less-overwhelming array of cars for some honest, challenging fun. I've had a lot of fun with the older rally cars, even though the tougher events are unwinnable with them.

OMG I got T-boned by the AI car once and it was hard. guess what? I got the 5 second penalty for that one.

****in penalties :scared:

I found something really weird, can a few of the people who have already done the Hard rally's try this?

I added 200 Ballast weight to the back of what ever car I was using and the wheels gripped better when cornering..

Yeah, it works, but I found it was harder to control the back end more. More weight was bein shifted, and I found it a lil harder to control my high speed turns. Might just be my driving style though, not sure.

Also, I don't think the rally is harder in GT4, just different. Once I got the hang of it, I thought it became almost too easy.

I suppose it also depends on what car U used, I think I used the TOYOTA RSC Rally Raid Car '02

just like driving in RL, make sure you arent in an accident... plenty of idiots out on the roads. oh and pick your o/take spots carefully.

I never played GT3, but it's defaintely harder than GT2. I tried my hand at the Georges V Paris and found the track to be rather claustrophobic. I don't think I'll be racing/rallying them until I've unlocked them in Arcade, that way I can at least learn them first.

Well, a lot of factors have been mentioned here, all of wich play an important role I think in what makes the GT4 rally races seem 'harder'.
In my opinion, the choice of car is the least important factor. A lot of people are saying"with this car it was really easy", but I think as long as you're using a recent model WRC car, there is not that much difference in the grip and control of the cars. Perhaps the stock settings of some cars are better for rally driving than on other cars, but I really don't think there is that much difference.
A lot of people seem to think that the rally races in GT4 feature less grip (one poster here stated that it is more realistic in GT4), but I'm not sure I agree. When I compare the only rally course that is in both GT3 and GT4, Swiss Alps, I don't really notice that much difference. In fact Swiss Alps is probably the easiest of the Dirt Stages.
As Ving pointed out most of the 'new' tracks are narrower and that combined with the penalties does make it harder IMO. GT3 rallying was all about power sliding through the turns, while in GT4 you are forced to take the turns much tighter. So like SRV2LOW4ME kinda pointed out, it's a matter of getting used to it.
I am 6 races away from competing the endurance hall and found that while I never used wall riding in GT3 I am doing it quite a lot in GT4.
I think this is another place where PD dropped the ball. The 5 sec penalties where obviously designed to disencourage wall riding, but I find myself riding the walls to AVOID getting the penalty. I use the wall as my safety net because as long as I'm 'riding' it, I can't slam into it :)

You thought George was claustorphobic? Ha! Wait untill you're rocketing through the twisty bits of Citta di Aria.

It's a lot harder to avoid being in an accident when you're trying to pass an unpredictable blind robot while going as fast as possible on a road with no traction. That's why there's no wheel-to-wheel rally racing. (and they don't even have to deal with blind robots).

I disagree with the post above saying the car choice is least important, I tried for weeks to do about 5 races on hard, I think they were Ice Arena, Grand Canyon and one other, using loads of different combinations of cars, stock and modded WRC, Group B and older cars, no joy until I bought the Mitsubishi Super Evo on advice from this forum and with my settings as used in all my other attempts, finished this group of races in 2 evenings. That car is definately suited to the rallying more than the others.

I don't think so, I think it's roughly the same. -- or at leas the terrain feels 'right' -- so if anything, I like it better.

I must say, I feel that the rallying in GT4 is much harder (and/or much different) than in GT3. There is even less grip (especially on the Swiss alps track - NO grip what so ever) and the AI is just awful. Every race in the 'hard' catogory the AI starts the race by cutting straight in front of me and smashing into my front, giving ME the 5 second penalty.. :grumpy: And then the AI can SLAM into me from behind with no penalty what so ever other times. Incredibly frustrating if it's a close race.. 👎

My favourtie rally car is hands down the Lancia S4 something-something.. (Can't remember, sorry). Stock it has all the power you need and great response without turbo-lag! 👍 Love it..

The snow rally really held me up when trying to reach 100%, which I achieved recently. I just SUCK at it..

Cheers!

tip: us a dodge ram maxed out..it will pay off big time :) :sly:

Hmm, I noticed the difference on Swiss Alps especially. I do agree that it's the easiest, but I think this is because it's easily twice as wide as a lot of the other tracks in most places. This makes it a lot easier to deal with the tendancy of cars in GT4 to just keep going in one direction, regardless of the direction they're facing.
This is especially notable in the first super shallow left/right combo. In GT3 it was realitivly easy to apex this corner properly and just go full throttle the whole way through without hitting anything. In GT4, unless I either brake for the corner, or start sliding almost back at the starting line I end up just bouncing of the outside walls.
Same with the sharp right hander at the end of the straight. In GT3 if done right you can just stab the brakes on entry and slide through without hitting anything. In GT4 if you try the same thing, you'll just end up slamming into the outside wall and stopping. No matter how much I think it should, sliding fails to kill speed in any usefull way at all in GT4. As I said, the only other vehicles I've driven that handle like this are in Asteroids.
That and GT4 brakes suck.
