Rally Finland 2005 Review

After over a year of waiting, Marcus Gronholm finally gets a win, after a stunning performance by the Fin in Finland, winning an incredible 11 stages.

Gigi Galli had some bad luck, first going out of the rally in Leg 1 then crashing out again on leg 2 under super rally rules.

Leg 1 (i think) also proved a nightmare for co-drivers, in particular one jump which winded a number of co-driver, Marcus Gronholms co-driver Timo Rautiainen seemed to suffer the most being rushed to the rally doctor with back and neck complaints but he was cleared to finish the rally.

Solberg had a scare after he went off the road at high speed but he got it back onto the road keeping his high speed momentum, this was caused by the lack of rear wing causing the back of his car to go overly high and he lost control on landing.

Leg 3 saw Gardmeister win 2 stages and Solberg clinched stage 21 but Gronholm came out on top.

Go Grönholm. Nice to see someone else winning a rally, It's been too much of a Loeb-show lately. And Vellipohja's jumps were pretty bad. One of those triggered the muscle cramp of Grönholms co-driver (thank god it wasn't nothing serious) and many other co-drivers were also complaining about the jumps.

Grönholm's performance was very impressive. He slowed down before all the jumps because of his co-drivers bad back, and he still won.

I almost went there this year, but just didn't. I sure now hope I had actually gone there.

ITV1 on the sunday afternoon of the rally weekend, and sometimes another program showing day 3 nearer midnight.
