Hi all,

I currently have a single stick of 512mb PC3200 Ram. I popped down the shop for another one, and the guy in the store gave me one and said it should work.

I have just popped it in and got the error: 'Dimm timing missmatch. The system is not supported'

I pulled it out again, and now i'm back to normal. Any ideas?

Any other ideas?

I read somewhere that changing the CAS in the BIOS will help? Is this true? The only problem is, when i have the second stick installed, I can't even access the BIOS. :grumpy:

*edit*

I had to change the CAS to 3.0 and it works now. My computer seems to think it still only hast 512mb, but everything seems to be going much quicker.

Have I done this correctly or can I get more performance out of my upgrade?

It should report the correct amount (1024mb). Have you tested the new stick on it's own to make sure its not dead? Do that and make sure you can get the new stick working.

Once that's done, try switching the sticks between different slots. For example, I know that a lot of motherboards with 3 RAM slots require/prefer you to use slots 2 and 3 first.

Are they the same speed of ram? If they aren't, by chance are you putting the new stick in what would be the slot for dual channel?

That's a good idea, i'll give it a go.

The first two tries with CAS at auto and 2.5 failed. The third try was on CAS 3.0 but the ram chip was in the 3rd slot (instead of the second with the first two tries)

They should be, but it looks like there might be a difference.

are the brands the same?
No.
